I tried the 2.4Ghz version with a joymega and nms8250..while it worked very well for a while, at some point the receiver broke (the connection got quickly worse over ~half an hour. I opened it up and one of the chips in it looked suspect (melty like damage? )..ofcourse I don't know how it looked before, and the chip could just have been broken, but could it be that the joymega I have is wired up wrongly or something?

Have you checked if your MSX provided 5V correctly rectified?
Can you take a picture of conexions in your Joymega?

this is the top

(the transistor's flat side is flipped with respect to the pic on the msx wiki, but I do not know if that matters)

this the bottom:

the voltage on the msx between pins 5 and 9 is 4.95V...

I've heard more than one person saying that the transistor version of joymega is not good for 8bitdo, not sure why...

I am a bit confused: I think the joymega I have is following the hand drawn diagram at the end of http://ideatime.tistory.com/attachment/cfile27.uf@213F5C3A574E8BBF1B8478.pdf however I think this diagram has the emmitter and collector of the transistor the wrong way round - the pictures of the build adapter e.g. at step 5 also agree with this...but maybe someone with more experience reading circuit diagrams can confirm this?? .this doesn't explain the 8bitdo receiver breaking down though...

And YES you are correct, the building of the adapter explaining it the right way.
The schematic has the C and E labeled wrong.
Finally someone who noticed it. (i didn't until now :o )
I will change it in my pdf. that can be found here

The welds on your Joymega are ugly. Shocked!
You better redo them yourself.

I think you confuse with the OCMs but it is possible that this is the case for all devices that use 3.3V chips 5v tolerant. I wonder why no one uses a single inveter gate like the SN74LVC1G04.

I have the transistor version of the JoyMega and it works fine with the 8BitDo (bluetooth version) as far as I have tried. Though I haven’t done extended play sessions with it yet.

Pins 7 and 8 on picture from the pdf seem also inverted.
