That King's Valley port is pretty neatly done! They had to replace all the sprite code at least with manual stuff. It helps that it targets the Spectrum with the PSG, so that it can feature the original PSG music.

Good, but was there any contemporary official port? I also want to know if any title comparable to Manic Miner and Jetpac ever started from MSX.

AFAIK, no, MSX machines weren't popular enough to make a commercial port back in the day.

Original MSX game market in Japan was a little bit different, I can't remember too many platformers like "Manic Miner", in fact I can only remember a couple of platformer titles: "The Castle" saga, "The Demon Crystal Saga" or "Door Door" and if I'm not wrong, none of them was an MSX original game, all being ports from older machines like the PC88, FM7 or X1.

So it wasn't a big mystery Konami intentionally excluded MSX from Jail Break.
I didn't mean a Manic Miner style game but I meant something as successful as it was in the Western 8 bit scene, something people still recall "it all started from MSX" like Metal Gear.

These were the two I could recall that were ported back then:

  • Stop the Train (ported to the C64 and ZX-Spectrum
  • Comic Bakery (ported to the C64)

AFAIK, porting of non-arcade Japanese games to western computers was rare back then, be it from the MSX or other platforms like the PC-88, FM-7 and even the NES and SMS.

Oh, yes, I remember now the "Stop the Train" (btw, one of my first two MSX games) for ZX Spectrum, very good and faithful conversion, undoubtedly a "rara avis"

I remembered another game: Bomberman was ported from the MSX to the ZX-Spectrum as "Eric and the Floaters".

Was Yie Ar Kung-Fu 2 made for MSX first, or was it just a multiplatform game?

Hudsonsoft also released Cannonball on MSX and ZX Spectrum in 1983 (or so it would look like), but I have no idea if either was the original platform.

Comic Bakery is definitely MSX first. I can't say certain about Stop the Express because some sources insist X1 and MB-S1 versions preceded MSX.
Yie Ar Kung-Fu 2, which wasn't ported to anything else in Japan, must be MSX native because Speccy version is too primitive and it's hard to think Konami started from C64. According to "Bomberman (1983 video game)" wikipedia it was released simultaneously on multiple platforms though other ports were titled Bakudan Otoko in Japanese. Unfortunately Cannonball came out in 1983 July when MSX didn't exist.
Perhaps speccy databases might list ports from MSX.

Konami's Ping Pong started from MSX then was ported to Speccy (moves so fluid!)/C64/Amstrad CPC/NES/arcade.
