Hello. After reading a wiki page for metal gear 1,i saw there was a quote that ultra games company planned to port it to amiga. After several google searches i was able to find an advertisment for it.I hosted it on imageshack for you people to see.

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/6176/metalgearmiscscreenshotha6.jpg

My question is this. Was there ever a port really? Was that amiga version reviewed by any magazine?Ultra games company in a way claimed that Amiga version would be the best port of metal gear. Now on this ad it says copyright 1990.If konami allowed them to port it what went wrong and this game was never sold?Out of the 3 version ports on this ad,the amiga seems to be the one that is definitely from msx.The others seem to be from the nes version (the entrance with the parachute is from nes for sure)

I would be interested to know.If this game actually exists on amiga it must be a very very rare!

Best

Quite a strange add, especially since it mentions that Metal Gear is a trademark by Ultrasoft and Konami isn't mentioned anywhere.

Konami=Ultra Games.
Nintendo of America restricted 3rd party developers on the amount of NES games they could release anually, Konami created the Ultra Games brand to circumvent that.

Similar maybe to the way some european konami roms existed?Green beret comes to my mind.So ultra games was just an american programming team of Konami ?

Similar, but not the same, as Konami already had a team in the USA.

Wikipedia can explain it better than me, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami :
"During the heyday of the NES, Nintendo of America controlled the production of all licensed NES software titles, and limited third party developers to a maximum of five titles per year. Several companies found a way around this restriction by founding quasi-independent subsidiary corporations, effectively doubling the number of games that they could release during the year. In the case of Konami, this subsidiary was known as Ultra Games, and a large number of Konami titles were published in North America under their banner, including the original Metal Gear, Gyruss, Skate or Die, the first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games and the critically savaged Snake's Revenge (a Japanese-made Metal Gear sequel made specifically for the western market). In Europe, faced with a similar restriction placed by Nintendo's European branch, Konami established Palcom Software Ltd. to the same end. By the early 1990s, Nintendo of America had relaxed many of the more draconian of its licensing restrictions, and, no longer needed, Ultra was shut down in 1992, with the remainder of its staff being reabsorbed into Konami's official American branch."

I remember how much depressed i was because my disk version of metal gear (cracked by a french group called sma international) used to crash on the elevator screens randomly.I bought an amiga sometime during 1991 and i was always hoping for that game to be ported to amiga. There is still some hope for an amiga.Numerous games that were developed but never released exist. One example 'snow bros".I found an ipf of that game on a site that deals with rare to find amiga games.

Now if the game was ready to be released that means that the programers finished their jobs.If we could find someone who had some contact with that team.It would not be easy but not impossible. There was a telephone number and an address there on that ad.

Do you think that this is crazy?

Or just run AmiMSX / fMSX Amiga on your Amiga ;-)

It's just like snowbros on amiga. It was recently found out that it exists. The game was cancelled and never released on the amiga market. After many years someone found the people responsible for it and he got the disks for Snow bros amiga version.

The same for metal gear amiga,it would be interesting that's what i meant. If the game was developed and finished we may find a working version.

However you are right,i used emulators many years later on my amiga (fmsx version by Hans Guijt) and finished that game.

LOL!

I haven't seen that in a long time.

That advertisment was for the NES version. The add was published in early NES mags and also came with Konami/Ultra NES games. That add has nothing to do with Amiga.
