Thanks for all the kind feedback regarding my last (first) song for the MSX, called Groovy. It gave me energy to explore the chip even further to see what is possible.

Last time my song was very much based on the melody. This time I've worked more with the sounds. Due to the song's structure I had to constrain myself from creating a too complex melody (there isn't enough room in it) so instead I chose to focus on making as thick sound as possible. Perhaps I went a little too far into Jarre-land (or Hubbard-land) in my quest to flesh out the song with effects but without them it would have been a less interesting project for me. It's fun to work with soundscapes.

TECHNICAL INFO:
The song is created with Arkos Tracker II.
I'm using 82 different instruments/effect sounds in it (Yeah, I know! Rediculous isn't it)
The bassline is made up of a saw wave hardware envelopes (Sound type 3 with very low periods) but other than that all sounds and effects are software only.

Channel 1 is bass and kick drum
Channel 2 is mostly backing instruments, hihats and snares combined to be played at the same time.
Channel 3 is melody and effects

So what do you think this time?

Pretty cool. Perhaps it could be an interesting idea to extend the track a bit (track can be a bit longer anyway), and go into a different direction @ the 1:26 mark? IMO ending/conclusion is kinda lackluster Smile

Yes I agree. However when I make a song without a purpose I try to close it somehow before it gets boring or repetative. If it's supposed to be in a game or something I would indeed adjust it to fit better by extending it or change it to fit a certain mood.

So, see these two songs as demos Smile

The sounds are quite impressive! Out of curiosity, how much space does the song use when saved to disk/rom?

Wow! Pretty cool!
To play such a song on a MSX game is a CPU intensive task?
This kind of music is common on Demos not on games, as far as I know.

I guess it depends on which format I should export it to. Any suggestions?

Don't think so. It shouldn't demand more CPU than any other Arkos Tracker II song.

Arkos has several replayer that could be used due to your needs. For my projects I.used the most.complete and "slow" of them (the AKG player) and it's still very fast (Freedom Fighter uses it). Usually demos need a player as fastest (and lightest) as possible (demos special fx need cpu time!). If I'm not mistaken (too lazy to check on arkos website now) the suggested one is AKY player

Oh, not sure which formats can Arkos export to! I am just wondering of the order of magnitude! If we are talking of a few KBs, or 10s of KBs or 100s of KBs. My games use very simple songs I encode manually (without any tracker), which usually use just 200-300 bytes of storage. But I am looking to create richer sound songs, and your sounds quite impressive. So, I was just wondering how much space does it take to get all the way there Smile

I will have to run some exports and see then. Sure, it's a lot of instruments and a lot of notes in the song but all software, no samples or big tricks so it shouldn't take that much space.
