The explanation for the numbers (all Panasonic MSX serial codes) is on page 5 of this thread by Gradius2.
I took the liberty to some additional data based on the numbers by Peter for older Panasonic MSX computers.

Year:
6=1986
7=1987
8=1988
9=1989
0=1990
1=1991
2=1992
3=1993
4=1994

Month:
A=1
B=2
C=3
D=4
E=5
F=6
G=7
H=8
I=9
J=10
K=11
L=12

AK, CN, NM or KS = Plant (Factory).

A, B, C, D, E, F = Machine revision.

The last five digits is the unit number.

Yeah but the important bit of info is the unit number. It gives an indication of how many machines were sold.

So at least 72000 A1, 27000 A1mk2, 48000 A1F, 15000 A1FX, 22000 A1WX, 29000 A1WSX, 29000 A1ST, and 17000 A1GT. Those numbers make sense. Turbo R was not a huge success but also no failure. Of course there was no more competition from Sony and Sanyo at that point so total numbers are higher for MSX2 and MSX2+ On a whole.

Nice! This thread is around for so long, I always thought it was really just to boast about your turboR under the guise of “research”, as I did back in 2015 Smile. But that is some nice information! Also applying it to the other Panasonics (my FX: 8LAKD13613). Good and interesting insights.

Please note how those serial numbers are not machine dependent. Which means that we are currently overestimating the numbers. For instance, the A1WSX and the A1ST could've been produced at the same plant during the same period of time, which would result in serial numbers coming from the same range.

That is actually not true, see for example these 2 serials:
FS-A1WSX 0HNMB29680
FS-A1ST 0JNMA01361

These where produced in 1990-8 and 1990-10 in the same plant (NM) but 5 digit serials in no way indicate these are shared (otherwise the later produced ST could not have a lower 1361 number compared to the earlier produced WSX with 29680).
