Hello All.

I've already asked this some years ago but there wasn't any satisfying answer back then :

1 - Is there a way to output msx psg/scc/fmpac music to a midifile (.mid) ?
2 - Same thing with those .kss files on a regular pc computer.

Many years ago i was already tired retrieving notes for making remakes/arrangements or whatever you want to call that, now i'm still tired and i've ran out of freetime !

Getting midifiles is the way to go for me, please help !

Since recently one can send FM-PAC to MIDI using a MIDI PAC (a cartridge). There's probably no tempo track in it, but perhaps you can beat-match that? Haven't tried, as I have no MIDI-PAC, but I talked about that exact subject with SuperSoniqs (maker MIDI PAC) last weekend.

Also, with openMSX you can record channels of one or more sound chips individually, in one go. That doesn't give you MIDI'ish data, but at least things are separated.

Anyway, that's quite astonishing noone found a workaround for this... It's not like the msx was 25 years old !

While we're at it, no clues about converting .kss to mid ?

I figure it would be reasonably easy to convert music to midi on the fly with openMSX.. but, you gotta bug these developers with such a feature request. The only thing would be that it contains no tempo track.. but I dunno whether you can live with that. E.g. you wouldn't get everything in a musical way, but just note events scattered around in a tempo and measure figure that has no relation to what humans think of as music.

That's why they put the ctrl+c / ctrl+v capabilities in our beloved DAWS. Putting things together and arranging them in a erecting way would be just enjoyable.
I like the idea ! Wow, makes me want to run...

As far as I can see it should be a matter of making tables to match the chip tone frequency to concrete notes, with some room for vibrato and such.

The openMSX MIDI logging feature indeed only logs the events that are sent to an MSX MIDI device.

Valken is working on adding MIDI logging in his KSS player, he recently shared some examples of converted tunes on IRC. His program is exclusively for Mac OS X though, I don't know if that is useful for you.

I doubt it, but: is it possible for you to convert PSG/FM/SCC freqs to a note table (with some margin for vibrato and detuning) and output that as if it would be MIDI data? That would be the easiest solution I think..

Isn't recording separate channels to wav enough already? in a wav editor you can see what's going on on each channel.
c/p'ing music data from the original music to an editor would the top of laziness.
