bottom line, some folk are good with trackers, some.. er..

The bottom line of this particular thread is that J-War (and me too for that matter) don't need a MIDI cable or any other physical MIDI device, as we work in-the-box. In fact, for what we would use it, note on/off and program change (as a reference for FM-PAC) is enough, we don't need extensive controlling, mod wheel, pitch bend, after touch, whatnot. Probably we don't even need the drums (let alone composite FM-PAC drums split up into all the 5 components).. just the pitched instruments!

Exactly ! Notes and duration for each tracks are enough, nothing more is realy needed. All the " expression " controls will be added later by each composers accordingly to their respective style...

WORP3.
I understand that it requiere some bandwith to hold all informations but still, for remaker, the most important is to have the basic information instead as a very accurate one.
As a matter of fact, a note off doesn't requiere the volume. Two bytes are enough. Wink

Concerning the sound change, it's only for FM PAC since psg and scc can not really give us accurate information, it's better to set them while working on the score.

Anyway, So far, no psg game requiered more bandwith than what midi can provide. Wink

And finaly, it's for the sake of Msx Music remake. Wink

@WORP3:
It's just that some guys just won't seems the read anymore or want to learn anymore but just keep jelling their idealized idea's

I can unfortunately 100% agree with you!

Hahaha, nice to see that every one has their reason for some kind of a solution, at least we all do it for the love of the old MSX game musics

Good luck with the conversion !

Yep, that is always nice Wink

I am not agressing you but when you mentioned the speed of the midi wire I checked what could be requested on msx.
Let's say we are running 60hz, we have room for 520 information per second.
If we have 10 channels, more than enough for psg and scc, we still have 52 operations per channel.
So far I couldn't reach this limit.
Perhaps you are aware of something we are not.
In that case it would be very nice to share some information you have.
I really like what MIDI Pac is doing but unfortunately, I do not have any opportunity to plug it to my mac. Wink
I listen the Fray demo ans it was just impressive.

Thank again for your feedback.

I wasn't offended in any way.

On average the bandwidth shouldn't be a problem but a lot of games will send all of the new settings at the start of a number which basically means that you have to reconfigure all of the instruments, modulations, channel volumes, reset still playing notes, etc, etc.
When this happens you will probably have a hold up inside your buffer !
But if you are only ripping the note information as you are doing then their shouldn't be a real problem, also using an emulator you will probably have sufficient memory to overcome this small problem Wink

Thanks for the complement LOL!
I just hope to finish the new release very soon so a lot more games will sound perfectly and those Roland users (also) can use bank switching for their voices !

Oups,
I need to come back on my previous assertion.
Sending a note off requires 3 bytes. If no it's not considered as a note off and instead let the note continue playing.

Being a Prick ???,Yes, a prick.
Re-read your statement "you guys really don't know where you talking about, as i told before, good luck !" remark, and then tell me that that's not "pricky". But, I'm sorry and sincerely apologize. I shouldn't have written that.

Nevertheless about my last reaction, i wasn't talking about channels but about maximum throughput of data on a single MIDI port !Ah, I see. But just (re)reading your posts doesn't give me that information. So how would I (or the others) even know that this was what you were trying to say?
It's only 31250 bits per second or 3125 Bytes per second.
A single key on and key off will take 6 Bytes so not a lot of notes per second left.
Still you have to handle all of the instrument changes, modulation, volume and controller settings and you will find out that you will run out of bandwidth before you know it !
On the other hand, doing stuff like modulation -- which is usually simulated with lots of volume or frequency changes on FMPac/MusMod -- can be sent over MIDI with just one single CC.

Don't forget that software that is written for sound processors will manipulate the sound processor with a lot of data, just to get more out of the simple chip.True, but the real question is then what you want to get out of the MIDI output. If it's just note on/off, instrument change and an occasional modulation, I think that in most cases the bandwidth for one MIDI port should be enough. I guess a little math could be helpful, but I'm too lazy to do that right now <:rnff:>
If on the other hand you want to have a perfect reproduction of the tune over MIDI, then you're absolutely right. But in that case what's the point of using MIDI?
