Hello everyone,

We're working on a translation of Runemaster III. A lot of work has gone into this already, but unfortunately we've come to the conclusion that our knowledge of the japanese language is insufficient to complete this project in a reasonable amount of time.

So, we're looking for help. Are there any people here who speak Japanese and would be willing to help us out?

Some of the objectives that have been completed so far are:

  • Graphics format decoder and encoder created.
  • Added support for variable width font to the game.
  • Added support for elementary text compression to the game.
  • Some text was repositioned to allow for longer strings.
  • Partial translation of first scenario.

Some in-progress screenshots:

If there's anyone interested in helping us out, please contact me: phantom at roninonline.net.

Thanks. :)

They did leave in Japanese in the intro and such.
But pretty much everything has been translated in-game.
This is their version of screenshot 2:

I agree. Maybe Phantom can get translation help from Oasis' translation.

I also don't like those crappy breaks in the texts... I did several improvements on a couple of Oasis translations (SD-Snatcher, Tower of Gazzel, Dragon Slayer 6) and also found it fun to translate some easy things like the Aleste 2 diskswitch texts Smile

Oasis didn't do real graphics changes (much), just text translations. I hope to see more of this translation though...

We know that the game has been translated by Oasis. Unfortunately their translation does not help us because it's not very good. That's actually the reason we started this project in the first place.

We don't want to criticize Oasis. Their translation was made in a different time and they didn't have the tools we have today.

Do you have a project homepage?
I think this deserves a project homepage.

@ BiFi
We're of a same mind. Didn't like those crappy textbreaks of Oasis as well.

But credit where credit's due. They came up with the idea and didn't have the tools we have now. As far as I know Oasis didn't change any graphics (exception: char set for DS6, but iirc that was done by Parallax).

Yeah well... Oasis' translation contained a bug which made it impossible to play the game the normal way (something that affected the players' status iirc) and they took the freedom to change the names of the characters in the Oasis crewmembers' names...

Would the translation be released as a free IPS?
