@Prodatron: what about a Sega Genesis ROM loader (uses FM synthesis as well) or other ROM loaders for V9990 using Symbos GFX9000 version? Then we have some games to play instantly Smile

Huh ? How do you know this Wink

There’s an image in his post but the image doesn’t load (hotlinking protection probably):

After you click the link, select your address bar and press enter to load the image again without referrer. Then it’ll work.

Afaik that’s an MSX model with Sega Genesis hardware and cartridge slot built-in as well.

I guess that you don't have any control over megadrive part from the msx hw level. It is likely just a separate msx and md put together in same box. Probably sharing same video/audio output ports and joystick ports?

Where you hoping perhaps that we will be able to develop our own indie games for the megadrive through this MSX system? That like Commodore 128 for example you can switch between the C64 and C128 and you can develop C64 games through the C128 and/or develop C128 games verses the original C64/c can only develop games for C64 only?

Honestly, even if it is one motherboard and inside that motherboard there are two CPU sockets, one for the MSX mode and the other for the MegaDrive mode and there two different versions of RAM so that game compatibility doesn't break and all..how do you code for a 1980's console when those consoles did not have a build in OS like say PS2/3/4 or xBox/360/One or Nintendo Wii/U or NintendoDS series or PS Vita series. You see these new consoles have a full functioning operating system verses say NES/SNES when you turn them on with no game cartridge all you see is a black screen and nothing else, since these consoles do not have an operating system at all for them.

We have to take that into consideration. Another factor MSX and MD use two different CPU structure and different ways of accessing RAM and different RAM memory allocation and so on. In order for someone to develop MD you need to go completely assembly language here and use special hardware for that. There is no Visual Studio 2014 that can develop using high level language with .net framework for example for MD.

So to have two different motherboard's sandwiched together sharing same video/audio or two motherboards mushed and merged together as one, with one mode cannot access the other makes complete sense. If all you could do is play MD games on the second cartridge and you can only do one mode MSX or MD to me is an excellent invention and make sense.
