@sd_snatcher: "a bit" A BIT?!

Btw, the text is in pure ASCII so it would be really easy to see them.

During the years I've seen lot of these... Mostly they are telling who did and what.

ie. In D.A.S.S MSX-Engine did not even try very hard to hide their copy-protection code, but next to it they wrote "When D.A.S.S. will be copied too much, MSX-Engine will stop on MSX and continue on the SNES!!!" Smile

It's not really 'hidden', but Fighter's Ragnarök has a pretty funny textfile (in English) on the disk in which the team introduces themselves and where the development process is discussed.

However, please decipher the meaning of all bits."

A while ago, I was applying some reverse engineering to "The Rabbit" when I found the postal address and the phone number of probably the game developer, Simone Jannelli, back to the '80s:

Via Ottoboni 6, Milano ; tel.02/4032432

https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Via+degli+Ottoboni,+6,+Milan,+Italy&hl=en&ll=45.47703,9.136612&spn=0.010367,0.022724&sll=-34.985965,138.701955&sspn=1.55044,2.90863&oq=via+Ottoboni+6,+Milano&hnear=Via+degli+Ottoboni,+6,+Milano,+Lombardia,+Italy&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=45.477107,9.136506&panoid=3NBfpq5zWdMM4Y5t-JyM8Q&cbp=12,57.03,,0,0.59

It's been more or less 25 years since then, so I don't think that he still lives there and that is why I posted that info. I suppose it won't be troublesome.

...and I forgot another message. Although this one was not hidden on a particular game, it was a message stored in the boot sector of floppies distributed by Red Point, a very popular Argentinian store that sold video games for MSX. The original message said (a direct copy and paste):

piratA HIJO DE PUTA Y LA REPUTA MADRE QUE TE REMIL PARIO REPUTO DE MIERDA.ANDA A COGER UNA PERRA HOMOSEXUAL DE MIERDA ..ANDA A LA CONCHA DE TU PUTA MADRE

The translation would be more or less:

You pirate son of a bitch go to the whore that gave you birth, bloody motherfucker. Go and fuck a gay and go back to your mother's vagina.

The protection given to those disks was really strong and included reallocation and encryption of FAT and Directory. They used a proprietary format called ITM for game encryption, and floppies had no standard format (non-correlative sector numbering).

Dump one with the DMK tool and run it on openMSX Smile

Unfortunately, I don't know if those floppies still exist (I'm living far away now). However, I have all the protection tools used by Red Point so I was able to recreate the whole copy process (...and the creation of ITM files) with openMSX. Everything works just fine and the DMK format perfectly emulates the non-standard sector numbering.

Well the text about hydlide 1 is about some code for which he gives you a hint (his birthday being 21 september 1965). I tried loading the game with system date set to 21 september but to no (apparent) avail. I looked up if someone already noted what it did, only found that someone had already looked into it for a bit but not solved it: http://tcrf.net/Hydlide_%28MSX%29

So if someone knows what it does, would be nice to know.

I had a look at it and I think there is no secret code. Probaly what he means is that if someone finds out how the password/code system works (the meaning of all bits in the code) then contact him.
It could be nice to solve it 30 years later. Hmm... challenge accepted!
Does anyone know how to contact him?
