Hi Louthrax, weird issue with Vaxol and SofaRun 7.0. I am using MFR with Nextor 2.10. If I start Vaxol on MSX1/MSX2/MSX2+ machine the game does not start, if I run the same game on MSX turbo R it starts fine (even without reflashing because SROM.FLH)!

Any idea what could cause this? I confirmed that the rom runs fine on those machines in openMSX.

Can you try to set the "Disable disk driver" setting ? Also, check that the ROM device is the same when launching on turboR and your other MSXs.

Let me know if that improve things !

Hi Louthrax.
I'm having some trouble getting a few games to run in Sofarunit:

Magnar (1992) (Parallax)
-Gives error message at start up: "Boot Error, not enough memory for BASIC variablese"

La'Valeur (1989) (Kogado) - both japanese and english version
-Won't start, just gives blank screen

Ginga Eiyuudensetsu II Space War Simulation (1990) (Bothtec)
-Same as La'Valeur, blank screen

For the Day II (1990) (Mirinae Soft)
-This one starts but when trying to proceed for the intro scene the game freezes with a a sudden sound.

I tried some basic changes as turning Write enable disk on and off with no success. I managed to start these games in Bluemsx or as written on a real floppy. Versions of dsks I'm using is mostly from TOSEC or File-Hunter archive.

I'm using a Philips NMS 8250, btw

Hi,

Some games need patches to work on SofaRunIt because they access the memory mapper, where SofaRunIt code is present. It could be that the games you mention fall into that category, but I've not investigated them so far.

About the "not enough memory" issue, you can try to set the "Simulate CTRL pressed" setting. You can also check the other settings (like Disk delay, No memory mapper or Compatible mode) to see if they improve things.

Let me know of your findings !

I just noticed this thread is not the same where I type my problem with SR7, so maybe is much better to use this one (ignore if not).

Hi QBee Sam,

That's an interesting bug you raised here. You indeed have a big INI file here, but it should fit in memory I guess, unless you browse a big ZIP file or directory at SofaRun start. That's why I suggested the SR /I option which does not jump into previous location, but maybe your root or default directory is also crowded with lots of files ?

I'll make some tests with your INI file, it's also possible that SofaRun has a memory allocation bug somewhere...

Well, almost the same ini is working on SF6 but only at 1st run, and about the root files, at the moment is 68 files, maybe I can remove some to test, I'll try tomorrow if possible, thank you.
65 files at root

Hello, i recently installed version 7 on my sx1 ocm clone, but i'm getting weird behaviour with version 7. Whenever i try to launch a rom, it always get the ocm mapper in slot 2, and on version 3.20 it used ese scc in slot 1(as i have configured in dipswitches). Is there some configuration to do on a game by game basis?. Do i need to specify the slot manually in version 7.
On version 3.20 on auto option it always got the correct slot.
Thanks in advance!!!

Hello again. Just checked and tried to delete the config files and now it recognizes the scc ese slot. I have noticed that when i try lo load a rom that was flashed previously it tries to launch but screen stays blue, then resets and show again the initial dos prompt. If i launch another rom or use the option to remove last flashed rom it works as intended. Why could be the reason it is not launching the previously flashed rom?.
Thanks in advance!!

I originally posted to sofarun 7.0 notice, but guess this is the appropriate place.
I cannot get Commando, Family Stadium, Labyrinth and Xevious Fardraut roms run on Sofarun. I tried all rom variants from Planetemu as well as rom dumped from the Commando cartridge, but all of them failed, some of them in different way from the other. The environment was unmodified FS-A1GT + Sofarun in diskette/Sunrise ATA-IDE/Rookie Drive. Changing CPU mode setting to Z80 didn't help.
I noticed instead of Sofarun menu I can boot Commando/Xevious/Family Stadium (but not Labyrinth) by SROM /D0 /Z1 command line to set memory mapper instead of turboR mapper as the preferred device and not to run the game at R800 speed. But how can I set so from Sofarun menu, and how can I enable Find Music Module feature with SROM command line? I want to use sofarun instead of real game cartridge because I want to enable MSX AUDIO with the Music Module cartridge. SR /D0 /Z1 didn't change anything.
Note: Family Stadium is a special cartridge that freezes after the opening logo if no FDD is available. Probably because of this, SROM can boot it from a FD but fails from large storage media.

That did not help, I was using MFR on all machines. MFR does not refresh the flashed game if it is the same (SROM.FLH feature) so the flashed game was the same on all machines and it only works (for the machines I have) on the FS-A1ST. On the other machines if I change preferred device to memory mapper it also works on the other machines (but that keeps reading from disk).

Hello,
I feel a bit dumb but I cannot, for the life of me, find the "Extract all" option (mentioned on the SofaRun 7.0 Usage page) for ZIP files. I split all my games by developer in zips to preserve long filenames, and I'd love to create the all the unstored files at once in a .unz folder rather than unzipping one at the time.
Is the "Extract all" option supposed to be there or I'm missing something obvious?
(BTW I'm using SofaRun on the MSX core of that MiSTer FPGA thingie and it's literally awesome, I'm turning into a lazy penguin and won't be able to live without SofaRun anymore, so THANKS!Smile)

I wonder what your experience is with the 'automatic CTRL key' pressing of SofaRunIt.

We (Louthrax and I) found out that (at least on my system) many disk games break when automatic CTRL key stuff is enabled. I thought: let's just put this in the default configuration, because I don't know any game that requires 2 drives and I know several games that require CTRL pressed. Turns out that it broke many games, mostly the Microcabin games.

So, what are your experiences?
