Hi all,

I'm trying to get Outrun to run on my msx2. I have a 256K .rom file, which works perfectly with OpenMSX, but when I start it using loadrom on my msx2, it just says:

0......123456789ABCDEFG

and then it just sits there for a few moments, and then it reboots.

Now I'm assuming these numbers/letters are 16k memory pages being loaded, so I guess it only crashes after loading it. My msx2 has 1MB of memory, so that should be enough (I read somewhere else on this forum I need more memory than just the 256K). Is there anything I can do to make it actually start?

I also read (on www.outrun.org/new/msx.html) a file names outrun.dsk should exist somewhere. They have a dead link to it in any case. It should contain a loader in Basic, so I'm guessing its a regular binary, not a rom file. Does anyone have that?

I someone has an original version and is willing to sell it to me, that'd be very cool as well.

Thanks for any help.

loadrom works only for quite a few ROM images...

Unfortunately, yes. But as I said, if someone has a legal version available, I'd like to buy it.

there's a disk version (cracked), I believe it does some weird things like loading constantly during the race and requiring a lot of ram.

As for originals, Serico has one on ebay

a bit pricey though.

Don't you think that "pirate" is a bit of overstatement? I mean, the game has been recoded, adapted and has been converted to work on a different system. I won't call it pirate, although I agree that it might have some copyright issues pending Smile

so, what's it got to do with Outrun anyway?

thinlizzy: What the hell? I made that game from scratch, how in the world is that pirate soft?

The original is for MSX1, I made it to MSX2... it's not even adapted as Knightmare Gold, it is all done from scratch!

BTW: if you have MegaRAM, there's a Outrun MSX2 version for it... Wink
