Your Nextor version is very old. Try to update it. I think you have the V1 so you can use the disk-ROM below. (SDMAPPER.ROM)

https://github.com/fbelavenuto/msxsdmapper/tree/master/Driver

The updater is here

Otherwise if you have the v2, go to the link below.

https://github.com/fbelavenuto/msxsdmapperv2

I think you need to retry formatting SD with larger _FDISK after update. One partition of 2GB is more convenient. Unless you want to use the SD card under DOS1.

There is a moonblaster version that consists of loose files. That will run fine in dose, but remember that it doesn't support subdirectories...

Anyway, I think the machine might be faulty as I have a few extension cartridges that have programs build in like the "music module" & "HX-MU900", though when I plug these in, they wont automatically boot into the build in software. Actually the music module does when I hold escape during start-up (or enter call musicbox or _musicbox in basic), but the screen is glitched out, garbled so unusable. The HX-MU900 cartridge seems to run in a reset loop, until I hold esc and it will exit into basic. I have to google to see if this is normal behavior for these cartridges in the 8250.

Regarding the music module: most likely this had a rom update as well, in which the ESC key is inverted i.e. only when pressed the internal ROM will boot (a common upgrade since it is very annoying to always have the internal software starting up). Beside that, of course the screen should not be garbled.

It may just be a corrupted ROM, either way MoonBlaster will work if the rest of the cart is OK. If you have your SD-512 up and running you can download the MoonBlaster 1.4 disk onto the SD512 and write the content to floppy with FDLOAD or COPY720. I have not gotten around to sending the disk to you (if you can manage on your own os of course better, give a man a fish or teach him how to fish Wink)

It's weird, when the SD-512 cartridge wasn't working, the Nextor basic versions is 2.10 alpha 2 as can be seen in one of the screenshots on the first page. However now that I can access the cartridge, nextor.sys is version 2.01. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you mean? Because it currently works, I'm hesitant to update stuff (is 'updating' simply overwriting the same file already present on the SD card?), perhaps bricking the cartridge in the process.

I've got it to work simply through Sofarun! Just select the disk image that I've put on the SD card and run it! I can even write it to a floppy disk from Sofarun, afaics no need to use FDLOAD or COPY720.

Thanks for the help all and offer to send a disc Sdsnatcher73!

Try with Nextor 2.1.0 Beta 2. As long as your floppy disk drive is working you can go back to the previous version.

After update remove the with _FDISK and make one of the same size of the disk, then copy nextor.sys and COMMAND2.COM (v2.44).

I would not update the SD-512 by flashing new firmware. I was advised not to do it by 8bits4ever because newer firmwares appear to have issues and the developer is not very active anymore. It is good to get the 2.10 version of NEXTOR.SYS so everything is more aligned (I mean the Nextor kernel and the system file are then the same version). There were some changes between 2.01 and 2.10 that may cause incompatibility.

Anyway great that you managed to run it with SofaRun! SofaRun will create a “user disk” for you where you can write your songs, it will be available under the 2 key (SofaRun allows to swap virtual floppy disks ;)). It is however probably needed to format that disk first, which I don’t know if it can be done from MoonBlaster. You can also put an image of an empty disk as MOONBLAS.USR in the SAVES directory of SofaRun (use the same 8 characters as your disk image, assuming it is called MOONBLAS.DSK).

Which version are you talking about?

8bits4ever does not indicate anything on its site and leaves the version 2.1.0 Beta 2 as the latest version. The Nextor Disk-ROM v.2.1.0 beta 2 works better on my Sunrise CF. If this is not the case for the SD-512, this is probably the driver that has been modified incorrectly. In this case 8bits4ever could have recreated the v.2.1.0 beta 2 with the previous driver or even with v.2.1.1 beta 2. It's amazing he doesn't.

They don’t specify 2.10 beta 2 anywhere on the product page. You can’t just flash IDE Nextor to this interface. They link to the SDmapper vithub page the SD-512 is based on, again I was advised by them to not upgrade to 1.06 release (which includes Nextor2.1b2).

sdsnatcher73, look the wiki page below and you will understand my post above. We should say "Disk-ROM" and not "firmware".

https://www.msx.org/wiki/Disk_ROM

I did not say that we can flash the Nextor IDE Disk-ROM on this interface. I said that the Nextor Disk-ROM v.2.1.0 beta 2 works better on my Sunrise CF (than the v.2.0.1). Therefore, it should be the same for the SD-512 except if the driver has been modified (compared to the Nextor Disk-ROM v.2.0.1 for the SD-512).

That means the driver is the same, is not?
