Just got this in the mail today, it's a Sony HB-75. I only have one cartridge game at the moment, but I'm very excited to explore what kind of things I can do with this computer. I especially wanna try and get some of mine and others pixel art on the screen.

If anyone has some newbie advice for fun things to do with an MSX1, feel free to let me know!

Here's some pictures if anyone wants to see:

Nice, congrats! I think the HB-75 is a nice looking machine, got a HB-75P myself.

As for what to do next, I would recommend to get either a MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD (w/ 512K RAM) or a Carnivore2, these all-in-one cartridges open up a lot of possibilities in terms of playing games and getting content from your PC onto your MSX.

Oh yeah! I had actually forgotten about the flashcarts for this thing. That's probably the right way to be headed Smile

Great news! Specially if it inspires you to create more of your gorgeous pixel art for the machine! Big smile

PS: But gorgeous pixel art for the MSX2/2+ will also be welcome. Wink

If it came with any documentations, I'm interested in the pin out of the rear expansion port. (Which pin does what).

It’s a regular MSX cartridge slot.

See the HB-75P service manual; “Cartridge slot B. This slot can be used to insert a ROM cartridge or a RAM cartridge (an expansion memory cartridge, a game cartridge and so on) as the secondary slot. This slot is the same as cartridge slot A. Before using this slot, the receptacle should be installed.”

The receptacle prevents you from inserting the cartridge crookedly or backwards (which would be bad) and to provide support. Very similar to the one that’s present on the Philips VG-8235 and NMS 8245.

Isn't the pin layout already documented at https://www.msx.org/wiki/Expansion_bus_slots ?

But nice machine, also have a HB-75D here :)
