Hi all, let's share locations of the MSX places to visit when in Tokyo - these could be shops, sightseeing, offices etc. Any recommendations and stories with links to sites and google maps positioning is welcome.

I was in Tokyo a few days ago, and didn't find any MSX stuff in Akihabara. Not in some Sofmaps and neither in the retro shop that had the OCM and some games 3 years ago. Not that I looked very hard, I was on holidays mind you. So maybe there's some stuff left, but you'd have to search very hard.

Hi!
IMHO they always have something MSX in the Super Potato or any of the Trader shops in Akihabara. The actual MSX computers are quite overpriced but you can sometimes find some cheap cartridges.
Honestly, I'm convinced that the best MSX shopping place is Osaka Tongue

And don't ask the guys in Super Potato how much the Turbo-R is. They'll tell you "don't worry" anyway. Big smile (Which seemed a bit odd to me but I guess they didn't know how to say "It's not for sale" in English Smile )

Maybe someone would need to order a new batch from Matsushita/Panasonic ... I believe that if someone place a order of 50.000 or 100.000 unit's their could manufacture some 16-bit machines!

I wouldn't be surprised. Big smile
Someone once told me that if you ordered a GDG (the custom chip in Sharp MZ-800/1500) from Sharp they would make it, but not cheaply at all.....

I think that Sharp has something to do with Masked ROM chips too.
Until some years ago, it was possible to order the MSX-MUSIC chip direct from Yamaha. There was even the PDF that states about the FM music on MSX systems.

Retrocomputing is getting bigger and bigger on the modern world.

It is possible to find *brand new* 16-bit SRAM PCMCIA cards on the market.Their are expensive, but I want them to create some experiments ...

You can pull them from various network and other equipment, if you are lucky enough. If you are even more lucky you can buy them on eBay for a decent price (but that doesn't happen often as all the Amiga guys are after them Wink ).

The problem with Amiga is that their would need a 150 ns or faster CARD, most of the Memory Cards are 200 ns or slower ... Slow external memory is not much a problem for MSX, only the inner Memory Mapper on MSX Turbo R is that works at 'full speed'. There are some nice memory expansion cards made by Panasonic itself! Another good feature of the SRAM Cards is that their would hold the content of memory for months or even years ...
