Somebody has told me that the SORD M5 was an ancestor of the MSX1 standard, and that it's quite easy to adapt the games made for that machine on the MSX... is that true ?

I know that the SORD M5 line of computers were using a Z80 CPU along with a TMS9929 video chipset, and I have found this page with some screenshot taken from different games for the Sord M5

http://k5.kreteni.cz/nostalgia/index.html

Apparently, many of them were made available for the MSX as well during the eighties.
Is this computer really a MSX relative, and in your opinion how difficult it would be to adapt its games to the MSX standard ?

hi

if i dont remeber wrong, the SORD M5 shares hardware with ColecoVision and Memotech MTX, not MSX. The MSX have a diffirent Sound Chip, but since there are a lot of ColecoVision ports out for MSX now, it seems like it can be very possible to convert SORD M5 games to MSX.

Konami made a not of games for SORD M5 as i remember, Pooyan and Tennis for example, i used to play Tennis on the Sord, at a School-Friends home. Back then.

As CrazyBoss says is close; but not really the same. The only machine that's very, very close to the MSX is the Tatung Einstein; but sadly, as in the case of the MTX, there're not too many interesting games to port (well, maybe a BBC Basic port...) Sad
Colecovision is the one and only system to deserve some attention.

Yep, talking about tools (languages for example) there's a lot to be ported...or maybe not, most of this software is CP/M compatible; but games, believe me, I already have most of the software listed and the vast majority is common with MSX, Electric Software, for example, did the same programs for both machines.
The Einstein's Jewel of the Crown is a compilation of four Konami games (Yie-Ar Kung-Fu 1, Time Pilot, Comic Bakery and King's Valley 1). There're also lots of XBASIC programs sold as commercial products...Sad

I happen to speak Czech and I know that page, being a happy Sord M5 & Panasonic A1 WX & Philips NMS 8280 & Sanyo PHC-28L (looks like nobody cares about it) owner. So if you want, I can translate something from that page for you. but this is an old abandoned site and there is more info on a not yet abandoned site here: k5.web.klfree.net/content/view/10/11/.
Meanwhile, you can try to read Googles' translations:
MSX tapes and Sord M5 translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=cs&u=http%3A%2F%2Fk5.web.klfree.net%2Fimages%2Fstories%2Fsord%2Fhobbymsx.htm&sl=cs&tl=en&swap=1&swap=1&swap=1&swap=1

And there are also the Czech translations of:

with some changes regarding to Sord M5.

This is the website of the late Dr Naidr, the great Czech Sord M5 connoisseur: falabella.lf2.cuni.cz/~naidr/sord/.

Cool, I'm a Sord Hacker! Tongue

I made a game on my Sord and then ported it to MSX, it was very easy. I haven't ported the sound routine, but the sound chips are very similar.
I've been looking at Dr Naidr's webpage before and it looks really informative if I only spoke Czech. I will try google translation on it and maybe you could help me correct some of the errors google makes.
Btw, if you search for Sord M5 on wikipedia, you will see a picture of my computer (it's actually a CGL M5) running my game Big smile
