Hello Everyone,
It's been months (years?) that I have not switched on any of my MSX's , and only came a few time to read the new posts on msx.org.
I would like to run Internestor at home , and then get connected to internet with a real msx. I saw Obsonet card and Dumas are not easy to find and buy, then there is only the rs 232 of my sunrise ATAIDE+RS232 combo ...ont
Still I dont want to use an old 56k modem since I have adsl at home, also I dont want to use PCaas a proxy or something : I want direct connection to my adsl box.

Has any one used the RS 232 port + a RS232 /ETHERNET converter ?

I saw many of these devices from 10 to 100 euros , some are even RS232 <-> wifi.
Does anyone think this can work, I have been reading the internestor manual and the ppp protocol to get connected suggests alogin+password but also a phone number to dial to launch the rs232 communication ...

Hi, the converter have to have PPP server built in. (for example this: http://www.vscom.de/693.htm perhaps can be modified with ppp demon).

Usually the converters that can find are virtual rs232 ports for a PC.

Other functions are usefull for msx like IP-Modem but dont work with internestor. Only can be used with serial telnet client to access for example a TCP-BBS.

About the prices... from 10 €? All the converters i have seen cost more than 100-120 €. Give us some URl or models, if i found one 10€ adapter perhaps can adapt internestor softwares to use it.

I would prefer to put 100 euros on obsonet or dumas and
support a hard working msx project but they are too rare ...

Leo, as for Dumas, you will just have to be a little more patient. The Obsonet cartridge has been released in the past, and Dumas is a logical evolution of it - all for the better!

It would have been better to mass produce the Obsonet cartridge a bit more. Of course Dumas is its successor. But my guess is its release will take quite a while and people really would like to get online with their MSX machines....

The Dumas proyect is stopped, now they are working in obsonet 2.

Anyway, the etherPath SS100 (second link) can work like virtual modem or PPP, it could works with internestor.

These are old models and is very hard to find product manuals and specifications, but thank to this oldness they are very cheap, a new model of the first link can cost 2000€.

other models have two( or more ) rs 232 ports.
it could be helpfull to write and test code of internet application.

Anyone tried Google documents on msx +gfx9000 ?
( you know that google suite for editing excel, word , hmtl online )

If you have a serial port on the MSX and a PPP driver, and you have an available ethernet connection with DHCP that goes to the internet... then you could use a Palm ethernet cradle. The only downside is that it is limitted to 19,200bps.
