I just saw this! Right now my MSX is a bit tough to take out of its position in my computer desk, but next time I have to get at it, I’ll get the serial number for you.

Hi michellybells, in the mean time I already received a v2 machine and I dumped the ROMs. So no need to trouble yourself Wink (although it’s always fun to hook up a machine you have not used in a while, imo).

For anyone who comes across a problem like this in the future, I've learned a few things about it that will help clarify things. First, I've learned that places like Amazon and Aliexpress that are selling "JP21" cables are actually just selling SCART connector cables with all the pins wired straight through. Second, the pins that should be crossed for a SCART cable are different than the ones for JP21. Some guides and things forget to explain that point clearly. The Japanese Wikipedia entry for JP21 (called RGB21) does list the correct pin crossings.

Another thing I learned is that many JP21 or SCART multi-connector switches you can find online don't use the correct pinouts. If it's made by Micomsoft (such as the SELECTY21) you'll be fine, but if you buy it from China... double check the pinouts.

Personally I have had someone build a RGB21 to SCART cable connecting the outputs of the computer on the RGB21 to the inputs on the monitor with SCART. The only issue is that the signal to trigger SCART TV‘s to use RGB is not present in the RGB21, but CRT‘s and OSSC don’t need it and one of my LCD TV‘s allowed to select RGB from the menu.
