A while ago, I won an auction on an MSX Lightgun: https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/e496108792. Now it looks like buyee is refusing to ship it internationally, because it's a "toy gun" - my only option is to ship it to a domestic (Japanese) address. So I'm wondering if there are any kind souls residing in Japan here who'd be willing to receive the item and re-ship it to me - I'll cover all the costs, of course.

If you've been through this sort of thing before and can offer additional advice, please do.

I appreciate any help.

OMG! 460 Euro without shipment for a game controller? If they allowed you to bid on the item, they must ship it to you no matter what. Otherwise this may be considered as an auction fraud.

It's further complicated by the fact that I combined the item with a bunch of others into a single package. The choices they gave me virtually require that I figure out what to do with the lightgun, before I can do anything else, which sucks.

Strange reason to refuse international shipping, but I'm assuming it has to do with the sellers fear that the item resembles a 'real gun'? I'm not aware how strict Japanese post regulations are regarding items that resemble the real thing though..

In any case, have you considered any official Japanese package forwarding services? Should be able to have the item sent to their domestic address and get it to you from there. You might want to check their list of goods they refuse to send over of course, just in case, but I suspect those will be pretty standard and only includes real weapons and such things they won't send.

@perfectnarcosis Buyee is such a forwarding service.

It’s likely related to strict EU weapon laws and toys that resemble them. It seems Buyee has a policy not to handle such items to avoid possible liability, even though in this individual case it is clear to us that there is no issue.

I'm in the USA, which is why this is particularly puzzling. Until light gun can be shipped, the rest of my stuff is virtually being held hostage.

What buyee says about it:

Items that cannot be delivered: Products containing lithium batteries, Nintendo Switch, weapons and weapon like items (including imitation swords, model guns, toy guns, and wireless devices), antiques, and food in general (including supplements) cannot be handled.

So you don't have any option other than find someone in Japan for domestic shipping...

I would suggest maybe checking other forwarding services apart from Buyee. I've used Remambo in the past, and here's a link to their restrictions page for using either Japan Post (much more restrictive) or using DHL/FedEx, etc services. All don't appear to include toy like guns, only mention I could tell after scanning the page quickly is Air Guns or Swords (real, fake or imitation). DHL/FedEx and others seem to have even less restrictions if you decide to use those services.

I once had an issue with an old laptop with an lithium battery. Buyee did not want to ship with Japan post but they offered UPS. UPS shipped it without issue. Maybe an option here?

I think that particular problem is different - it's a carrier limitation. In any case, my package is virtually stuck in the queue, and they refuse to do anything; instead, repeatedly ask me to choose one of the following options:

Quote:

Ⅰ.Discard the items we cannot ship, and register the remaining items on My Page.
Ⅱ.Ship all items in your package to a domestic (Japanese) address, such as your friend’s address.
Ⅲ.Divide your package, ship the prohibited items domestically, and register the remaining items into your My Page as normal.

Thanks, I reached out to remambo to see if they can help.
