Hi guys and happy new year,

Is there any release of BEER IDE available for Windows 10? The software runs if the msvbvm50 libraries are installed. However, no disk units are listed in the combobox... Do you experience the same problem?

Cheers,
S

Perhaps with administrator privileges ?

Thanks Philip, but unfortunately not. The program does not list the disks even if I set compatibility mode.

I have the BeerIDE202 software, and it works on Windows 10, using the option "Run as administrator".

It is weird indeed. I have tried running the software as admin on two computers running W10 with no positive results. I mean, it starts, but no discs are listed.

Maybe a 32 bit vs 64 bit issue ?
I have a home edition 32 bit windows 10 and that version runs more "old" software then my 64 bit laptop.

I tried it on 64 bit and it does see the disks.
Did you actually start the exe with right click -> run as administrator ?

Btw, building a beer interface seems like a nice DIY project. Anybody knows if it is possible to have a print made for a reasonable price ?

Yes, I tried both on x64 platform: Logging in as admin and running as admin.

Did you get it working? I also get no disk units, on Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Is there any source code available for that software?

What is it for anyway?

Once you have a physical Beer ide cartridge with a CF card for the first time, you need to prepare the CF card before you can use it. From what I understand, the partitioning tool is proprietary to Beer ide (or is not conventional so you can't prepare it on the PC without the Beeride202 tool). There is a fdisk tool for MSX that comes as a Basic file and a bin file, which works. But you need to get this tool onto the MSX. You could load it from a tape (not convenient), or a floppy (the machine might be a MSX1 without a floppy drive. I used the Emu-fdc), and other SD/ide cartridges didn't seem to work when inserted with beer ide in another slot.

So one of the Windows Beeride202 tool's job is to partition the CF card (and set boot, and format) Another function is that, I think the save/load dump allows you to put files onto that CF card on the PC or get files off the CF card. The CF card can't be read on the PC in a usual way as it doesn't get recognised. So if you wanted to put files onto Beer ide, like msx-dos files and other tools/games, you would need to have another media like mentioned before. And the same again for getting the data off the Beer ide to PC.
