Yes please, don't make the same mistake MSX has gone through in the past itself. Choose the more expensive but better option! Choose Rasberry Pi 4!

The RPi4 generates considerably more heat than its predecessors. New firmware was not enough to prevent the Pi4 from throttling under sustained load. Only additional cooling such as fans or heatsinks can guarantee that.

Sometimes the newest hardware is not (immediately) the best option.

The MSXVR website clearly states that the computer uses a Raspberry Pi 3B+.

In fact the first prototypes initially used an older generation of Raspberry Pi. If a 3B+ is enough to handle the additional HW and can run TurboR + V9990 software at full speed without slowdowns there is no need to upgrade.

I love the Rockpro64 SBC:
sbc+PCI-ex 4X
but my MSXVR that takes whatever it takes, a rpi3b +? Perfect, it will evolve in the future.

Well for MSX turbo R and V9990 maybe not, but what about my dream of LaserDisc emulation on MSXVR. Is it still powerful enough? They are working on X68000 and other emulator I read some time ago. It is not the ‘core’ function of MSXVR. But I would love to play Akumajou Dracula on X68000-VR with midi going to a Roland Sound Canvas (and go back to MSX)...

Also we don’t know how much CPU the emulator uses now. If it runs turbo R and V9990 at 20% CPU or at 80%?

Of course if Pi4 is indeed running hot that is a concern.

About RPI4
A few months ago, this SBC appeared suddenly and we were forced to have to consider it in the design of the pcb.
Current PCB is practically ready to exchange RPI3B+ by a RPI4. It is only needed a fix in the HDMI.
The main problem here was when we ran our current software in the RPI4, we got a lot of problems and incompatibilities. In fact, RPi4 GPIO is slower than RPI3B+. In our opinion, RPi4 needs time yet. When we can run our software equal or better than in a RPI3B+, we will consider the upgrade.
By the way, RPi3B+ works pretty well and has good performance, of course, we want more too (more RAM and speed) ... but we think that RPI3B+ is a good start point. Thank you.

About the RPI4, it also had some issues with the USB C connectors ( https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/07/raspberry-pi-4-uses-... ), not sure if it would be an issue for the MSXVR, or if they have already solved it though... bringing it up just in case :)
