@Huey, yes seriously
This is how beginner not finds things.
The keyword "volume" not matches on the keys page.
Well because this time it is different, entering with letter in pattern editor.
However the "pattern editor" site has a nice pic, otherwise empty.

Then, again back on the keys site, the keyword "playback".
I only find thing about "start from current order position".
Where is "start from top"

I cannot see a difference between F1 and ENTER key. whatever is an "order".
for debugging, I would like "start that thing on top".
as is, I always end up lots time on cursor keys

Aha, ESC makes it go to the top.

Please forgive my pedantism.
Meanwhile in the manual.
Pattern editor. General controls. ESC "return to the pattern edit area".

It is a typical problem of keys app.
The ideal manual maybe would be displaying a tree

A part of the keys tree:

ESC cursor to top
F5 file
F2 instrument editor = macro editor
	ESC back
	T tone	remark: not forget to turn dat tone on :)
	R repeat marker
	HEX key ...
	cursor up/down	go up/down in macro
	ctrl-l	set macro length
		...
	ctrl-w	set wave
		...
	ctrl-I instrument selector
		ESC return to macro editor
		up down	go up/down in instruments list

a special: macro editor level = instrument editor level
Even in pedantic tree description it needed some taking care.

Well but I always dream there was something to remove the "if only I had a mouse" pain.
Not so much is missing the input device. Keys can be real fast. But some general concept.
Like maybe CTRL+cursor makes one jump around the various fields.
And things be consistent, ESC always means "out of here".

Then the manual goes like
"ctrl+cursor is like the mouse. rest goes by usual click exploring"

The keys tree maybe could look nice in html boxes.
Key, short description, longer comment section.

Meanwhile things come out the speaker the way I want, progess

The current key controls are set up by (some profesional) music creators with a lot of tracker experience. None of their requests was mouse support.

The first versions of TT had mouse control. It just didn't offer what was needed. Al you need to do is give the controls a try. You are the very first person having issues with it. You're probably in a different mind set when it comes to GUI's.

I understand wanting to be compatible. mumble mumble to messy key apps era

It is not like I have problems because of being used to a different app with different keys.
But it's about something fundamental.
I always was fan of top handling machines.
Amiga has reputation.
And the handeling topic is not restricted to computers.
e.g. eurofighter does "floordive for the audience" fundamentaly better, audience always goes "bwaaaah that was close", while the pilot actualy was not in trouble.

The keys issue just never was really much attacked.
Up to today, with "GUI with TV remote control".

The key who made it most consistent is the ESC key.
Without mouse, there is the issue "how to move to that other box".
The TAB key was thought for it, but in the end fails.

I thought ctrl+cursor key might be a way for box-jumping.
Target Box could change color for visual feedback.

It's not like all that is new ideas.
But it is rare that an app does real consistent.
