Really nicely done saga cd to msx conversion of illusion city.
Awesome
Fantastic!
Eyesdropping... me wants !!
quite some (is it?) screen 8 pics loaded into ram? I don't hear loading delays in the music that frequent, nor are they that disturbing... What's the trick here?
Loaded straight from ROM.
I am pretty sure it is screen 5. Looks very impressive. I think they decoded the script because doing it manually would take a very long time to complete.
Hello, I am Oscar Kenneth, from Kai Magazine.
The images are Screen 5 (16 colors) since we needed the 4 pages to do most of the animations. (screen8 has 2 pages only)
Each sequence has been captured from the original mega cd demo, de-composed, cleared, prepared to fit into the msx2 vram memory, and converted from the original 64 colors to 16 colors with great effort. The graphic conversion took near 2 months.
We decoded nothing. Anyway, since the msx2 lacks many hardware effects the mega CD has, we had to emulate some of those effects with software.
It was all coded with Turbo Basic (Kun basic) right from scratch, and it took me 7 full days to encode (this is the wonderful thing about Turbo Basic, you can program at a very fast speed since you do not need to compile every time you want to see the results) and it is very powerfull too, if you know its tricks and limitations.
All our previous games (lilo, no name, nuts) were made with Turbo basic.
To encode this demo with ASM would take several months.
This demo works on any msx2 with 64k of ram.
The little pauses you hear sometimes are caused by a new turbo basic list being loaded. The screen 5 images causes barely no delay on the music.
The "trick" is to use the latest technology available for msx2: Huge megarom cartridge or mass storage devices.
We have 3 distributable versions in case anyone wants to have it:
-Digital version which includes the demo and box cover for 6 euro
-Boxed Floppy disk version to be installed into a mass storage device (sd reader, micro-sd reader, Compact flash reader, HDD...) for 10 euro + shipping
-Boxed Cartridge version for 30 euro + shipping (the cartridge is a very high capacity 64mega rom model (8000k) and it is very expensive, so this is why the cartridge version is so expensive).
Shipping costs are:
4,45 to Spain
8,79 to Europe
12,35 to the rest of the world
Those are the official Spanish post prices for registered air mail letters (with tracking number).
We accept Paypal and bank transfer.
Paypal payments have an extra fee of 5% unless you send the money as "family or friends", which is free
If you want to purchase this demo you can contact us at:
I will upload some photos of the phisical versions now.
Thank you all for your nice comments :)
