Interview with Cas Cremers from Parallax

Interview with Cas Cremers from Parallax

When we take a hop on the way-back-train and visit the early nineties, we will encounter a great MSX demo scene. A scene that spawns many developers merging into game making, or other. One of those demo coders that took the next step was the Dutch boy Cas Cremers. Indeed, a boy still. And this boy became a man, a man of home-brew game making. A true artist, in coding, graphics as much as in music. An all-in-one package, you might say. Swinging back to the present, Cas tells his story to Frank Romero and Gabriel López.

An interview with Cas, anno 2017. The man, the myth, the brains behind Vectron, Akin and the never finished Core Dump games. Read all about the rise of Parallax, the Dutch game studio that delivered us good solid MSX software, in this interview.

Fantastic, thanks so much! Cas Cremers was really an idol of mine when I was young Big smile, so I loved reading this interview. This quote below really applies to me.

引用:

In retrospect, I think the Parallax website and development diaries were also very useful to people. It’s essentially what you would now call a blog. I would be happy to think that through Parallax MSX games I inspired some people to pursue their own ideas. Perhaps that’s the best possible outcome.

It would be great if parallax games were sold again
with a new package and, if possibile, on cartridge.
Reprofactory? MsxCartridgeShop? Matra?

Never managed to solve the riddle of getting the final crystal in Black Cyclon, so never transformedit into a replay.
Though ARC, since it's appearantly an unseen around the scene, might be a great idea to play on the Twitch stream some day.

Would Cas Cremers authorize Arc to be cracked nowadays, for preservation purposes and so everyone can enjoy it?

It's already preserved. It can be played in openMSX.

True, tested it, and it works perfectly. That's why I brought it up to stream it some day, since not many have seen the game so far.

That's true but it would be really preserved if it can be played on real hardware or at a minimum FPGA.

Well, with the information of the openMSX implementation you can build hardware that does the same thing, right?

If that's preserved in DMK format it can be written back to a real disk and played on real hardware.
