Gotek and single sided disks

I've built a Gotek drive into my NMS-8280 which seems to work fine. For normal 720 KByte double sided disks that is.
When inserting a 360KByte single sided disk I run into problems. Sector based demos just won't run and file based disks will give a "direct statement in file" or similar.
Could it be that the Gotek doesn't like single sided disk images?

Not entirely sure (I mostly use RDNX for disk images) but have you tried the following from the documentation:

MSX systems require host = msx in FF.CFG for correct IMG layout detection.

if you do not use the host = msx the firmware will only see a 720kb drive with this parameter it is able to read 360kb DSKs
