The latest entry in the Pimp my PSG challenge is by Lieves!Tuore composer Yzi. Since pimping one of your own PSG tracks is perfectly acceptable for the challenge, that's exactly what Yzi did. He remade the PSG tune from the 1997 MSX1 demo Aekrus by Lieves!Tuore. Yzi wrote some interesting insights in how he created this remake:

Yzi wrote:

The song uses the SootSound music system, which lets you compose music in a modern tracker like MilkyTracker, use the Yamaha YRW-801 ROM samples, and convert the music to LTM format for playing on an MSX and MoonSound.

All the samples in the song are from the YRW-801 ROM chip, except the snare drum reverb sample, which can be heard in the song's third verse.

The song uses vblank timing and was made for 50 Hz interrupt speed. The player sets a 50 Hz rate, if it detects a VDP2 or better video chip.

An interesting way of working for sure, and an interesting take on pimping a PSG track!

In case someone is interested in using SootSound, it might be wise to wait until I've pushed my newest changes to the Sourceforge repo. The Pimp my PSG compo entry has a number of bug fixes and added features, both in the playroutine and the XM2LTM converter.
