DalSoRi reserve list

A while back MRC forum regular Retrofan started an inquiry for interest in the DalSoRi, a Korean OPL4 board in a small cartridge, with 1MB RAM and fully compatible with the Moonsound. Enough interest was raised, and 20 people ordered a DalSoRi OPL4 board from JunSoft, with Retrofan acting as distributor. This batch has now been sold out.

Jun has informed Retrofan that he can make another batch when at least 5 20 people are interested. Already 5 persons expressed their interest, so only 15 people to go. Price will be EUR 140,- including custom duties and Overrich cartridge (transparent or black). Retail price is a little bit higher as the OPL4 chips are hard to get nowadays. Shipping costs are not included; they will be 10 euro for shipping in the Netherlands, 15 euro for Europe and 25 euro for other countries.

When interested, send Retrofan an email through his MRC profile or sign up through the forum topic.

Update: contrary to the earlier reported amount of 5, at least 20 reservations need to be made before production starts.

My mistake, 20 people must be interested in order to achieve a 2nd batch. Otherwise it will be too expensive. 5 people interested by now.

It's also possible to do a batch for 10 units, but then the price will be 10 Euro higher each unit.
Let's wait and see if we can get 10 more people interested. Reservation will close October 15.

Thinking about it. After this batch, how many MSX OPL4 cartridges are there in the world, total
- MoonSound : 100-200? More?
- DalSoRi : 50-100?
- OPL4 ShockWave : 50-100?
- Wozblaster : 20?

Totalling something like 300-500, all in all?

Also, someone should do a nice comparison review in with video/audio recordings of all the specs, features and audio quality of all available opl4 extensions.

I'll do the comparison review, just send me: Wozblaster, OPL4 Shockwave and DalSoRi. Wink

Maybe it would be possible to arrange a distributed test, as long as the test setup can be standardized. I have a Zoom H4n recorder / USB audio interface, which is quite common. It has all digitally controlled settings like input gains etc. and I think the quality of the inputs, converters etc. should be quite consistent between different units. Anyone else here have an H4n?

That whole disk is made by Edwin van der Heide aka Impuls Corporation... He was the only guy at MGF who was willing and able to create stuff in the era after Jan van Valburg left.
In the later years he also coded for us after our coder left the scene in 1996.

If it helps raise interest in OPL4 cartridges, I've put my MoonSound player project on Sourceforge
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sootsound/
It's very much pre-alpha, but maybe someone can have fun with the source codes.
There's a precompiled .dsk in the Files section, ready to be run on an MSX or an emulator. It won't work in R800 mode yet.

It's happening as we speak... Some of the old school 90's muzak guys from the Dutch "demos for Tilburg and Zandvoort fairs scene" are gathering to release their OPL4 music... Jorito, John Hassink and I are already listed in the credits... At least three other guys are to be confirmed...
The replayer is already working and does have a trip to memory lane look...

This beast with at least 34 quality OPL4 tracks *IS* going to be released... And it might as well be very soon... We hope to let people who bought this new hardware enjoy it to the fullest...

Retrofan: I'm working on it together with six other musicians who already were famous in the 90s... Only the replayer is done. The rest, the gfx and the selection of the music isn't done yet...
Just one tiny little newsflash: One disk is not enough and a disk is released only when the replayer's 34 slots are totally filled...
Release will most probably not be before the end of the year... Nijmegen is a goal, but only when completed... It will be downloadable from MRC Wink
