A new release of DSK-PRO has been released, featuring the following changes:

  • Added a Hard Mode which enables copying disks with Overlapping Sectors Lock and Clone Sectors Lock.
  • Increased performance in normal mode
  • Fixed Bug when trying to Format a corrupted disk with Verify option ON
  • Support for more types of copy protections
  • DSK-PRO can now exit back to the operation system

So does this mean we'll have another FastCopy vs DSK-PRO competition?

The thing that bothers me more is that there are now 3 threads about this software.

- this thread
- DSK-PRO 10.1 Killer Copy Machine Edition Released
- DSK-PRO 10.0 Don't Mess With Me Again Edition

Please use one central thread.
maybe you can merge the two last threads.

No, it means that DSK-PRO 10.1 is released. Just that.

...and the thing that bothers me when I read "some parts" of the threads is that the arrogant attitude displayed when presenting the software continues. Not a bit of modesty!!!

@cbsfox - I think your products will be more positively received if you stick to a single DSK-PRO forum topic for feedback/announcements/beta-versions and news submits for new releases. That's how multiple developers do it these days (SymbOS, fMSX, ...) and it's a lot less intrusive.

I am not like them. I prefer to be more intrusive. The more, the better.
Actually its funny when I read idiot messages about how poor DSK-PRO is and how good FAST-COPY is.

man, what's wrong with your reading capabilities... I never compared fastcopy with the stuff you added, only to your lack of speed when handling the same conditions as fastcopy...

And please keep calling people idiots and prefer to be more intrusive... You'll hit the brick wall earlier with that attitude and maybe you can start with a clean slate then...

When did I say that you Meits compared DSK-PRO other options with FASTCOPY? You are saying that... I said there are people that do that. So, my reading capabiities are ok.

I don't call people idiots. Some idiots do what I said. And it's funny.

Actually there are some very nice guys here.

@cbsfox - consider this a request from the MRC crew then: please be a little less intrusive here. I do understand why people do a news submit and maintain a generic forum topic. Multiple topics will likely be regarded as comment spam in the future. It's overkill, really.

Sorry, I misread that part... It was 4:01 at night when I thought I read idiots... My bad...
But that fastcopy episode was quite something to confince you of just the speed differences. Just an acknowledgement even after the video would have been enough, but instead you dragged in options fastcopy does not have. Indeed, it does not have those options and i did not compare those options...

No problems.

Try to test the tool to check if it works there.

Abot the Fastcopy episode, I know why FASTCOPY was faster in that test in the video.
Its because it was used just 128k of memory mapper.
With that amount of memory, DSKPRO needs more loops (read/write), and DSKPRO is quite slow when beggining each loop.
With 2 megabytes of memory it reads all in 1 loop.
Try to test again with 2 or 4 megabytes to check if FASTCOPY is really faster.
Again, here it is not.

Hello,
thank you for your new release. Smile
I tried version 10.1 and tested other functions (with BlueMsx emulator).

- Disk -> File: works perfectly ;

- Disk -> Disk: too ;

- Disk Format: (pressing [F] key) freezes in Msx-2 mode (with Access Type: "W.DIGITAL FDC" or "BIOS").
It works fine in Msx-2+ and Turbo-R mode instead.

- Disk Zapper: works perfectly.
But I think you should add "Find Hex" too.

And at last,
when you exit to Dos the following message occurs:
"Insert Dos disk in default drive
and strike any key when ready".

Congratulations again for your wonderful copier but, please, can you correct those issues?

Hi,
I tried version 10.2 .
Here are the results:

- Disk Format -> It is unchanged. It still doesn't work properly.

- Exit to Dos -> It works now! Big smile

You have some improvements to do.
Have a good work! Smile

Note: Please, in "Disk -> File" and "File -> Disk" field, you should add "Disk -> Disk" as well.
And.... don't forget, "Find Hex" in Disk Zapper! Smile

Disk Format does not work? What are your configuration? It does not make sense.
Can you copy a disk in this machine that the format option does not work?

I will try to implement the Hex Search too.

Hello,
as I already said above:

- Disk Format: (pressing [F] key) freezes in Msx-2 512K Ram mode (with Access Type: "W.DIGITAL FDC" or "BIOS").
It works fine in Msx-2+ and Turbo-R mode instead.

- Disk -> Disk: (pressing [C] key) works fine in Msx-2 512K Ram mode (with Access Type: "W.DIGITAL FDC" and Copy Mode: "NORMAL").
- Disk -> Disk: (pressing [C] key) works slower in Msx-2 512K Ram mode (with Access Type: "BIOS" and Copy Mode: "NORMAL").

- Disk -> Disk: (pressing [C] key) freezes in Msx-2 512K Ram mode (with Access Type: "W.DIGITAL FDC" or "BIOS", and Copy Mode: "PROTECTED").

- Disk -> Disk: (pressing [C] key), doesn't work in Msx-2+ and Turbo-R mode, both with 512K Ram (with Access Type: "TOSHIBA FDC" or "BIOS", and Copy Mode: "PROTECTED").
The following message occurs: "CHIPSET NOT SUPPORTED!".

Thank you for your work for "Find Hex".
I hope my help will be useful. Smile

Yes, the only problem is with this MSX2 with 512k of RAM. Which model exactly is that?

It works with MSX2+, but not with that chipset from toshiba. MSX2+ from Sony uses another chipset, and works fine.

But this MSX2 is strange. What is the exactly model?

Hi Pippo,
Are your last tests (also) done in blueMSX or on real machines? I just checked the blueMSX source code and it seems many low level disk access functions are not yet emulated. So perhaps (part of) the problems you're seeing are emulator rather than DSK-PRO problems?

By Pippo

They are all (Msx-2, Msx-2+ and Msx-Turbo-R) BlueMsx standard models, I think.
Please, download the BlueMsx emulator and try yourself.
Use the following links:

- For HomePage: http://www.bluemsx.com/
and click "Download".

- For direct link to full zip version: http://bluemsx.msxblue.com/rel_download/blueMSXv282full.zip

Have a good work again! :)

Hi wouter_,
it can be so. Smile
If Cbsfox can generalize his routines is better, if not, Dsk-Pro will can be used on real Msx machines only.

By cbsfox

ahhhhhhhhhhhh, come on.

Blue MSX does not emulate Format Disk routines. Just for Turbo-R and WSX, WX, etc

So, there is no problem in DSK-PRO. Even because there is no meaning formating a disk in a emulator.

You need to test it in a real MSX computer, with real disks.

You can not copy protected disks (PDI) in a emulator. Just unprotected ones (DSK).
BlueMSX has no support for PDI images yet.

And the purpose of DSK-PRO is to deal with real disks.

But something works in a emulator right now.
