M-Pack, cartridge sized One Chip MSX

Korean MSX enthousiast Painkilla has revealed the first images of M-Pack, a One Chip MSX clone so small that it fits in a casing no larger than a Konami MSX cartridge. Contrary to the already small Mini OCM, this Micro One Chip MSX lacks a cartridge port.

Furthermore, all output is going through a single 24pin TTA connector (which you might know from the Gamepark GP2X), so additional cables are needed to hook up speakers and a display device. A dedicated transfer cable will be revealed in the near future.

Last but not least, the M-Pack is not only cartridge-sized, it also features an MSX slot connector, suggesting it can be plugged into any MSX computer. Needless to say, this might open up an impressive range of FPGA based MSX hardware extensions, all from a single all in one cartridge.

With new hardware development like the Mega Flash ROM SCC+ SD and this M-Pack I see a bright future for MSX ahead. Respect! Big smile Cool

@Vamp - I think the MSX is optional... the yellow connector seems to be for power, right? So you can either use it as an all-in-one hardware extension for MSX or as a separate OCM? Not sure about it, but that would be the most ideal setup ^_^

In reality I think this device can replace the Mega Flash ROM SCC+ SD

If used as a separate OCM then adapters/connectors for keyboard/joystick/display should be provided...

I presume M-Pack is very similar in concept to the prototype known as ESE system 4...

would be too pretentious to think that replaces the MegaFlash scc + sd, that is not so important globally.

It is more likely a portable msx ...

Ideally, you could connect to a msx slot, and use it as extension VDP, OPL ... by fpga

I used googletranslator Smile

What is the use of that hardware if they didn't sell it?. Like the other ocm they showed, it only served the purpose of rubbing in our noses and say, hey, you can't have this!.

I don't think it will be available outside Korea.

Perhaps a way can be found to produce the M-Pack in Europe and/or Brazil for distribution there?

I think that is possible to make something similar by other people, this is a very interesting idea, because:

- You can use the very small MSX wherever you are.

- You can upgrade your MSX1 to MSX2, 2+ or Turbor (if this OCM has this extension).

- You can use OPLL, SCC and other extensions on your MSX2, 2+...

In the last years we have seen FRANKIE, MEGA SD and Padial products, I think it is possible to see something like this on the future and available for all the people that like to buy it.
