Great news! Retrofan informs us that Jun Soft, his Korean friend who also made the Dal-So-Ri OPL4 board, has finished his own version of the MIDI Interface3 board mentioned over here

His board looks very nice, look over here

This one is compatible with FS-A1GT MIDI interface and works with FS-A1ST but should also work with MSX2/2+/1chipMSX if Turbo-R isn't required. It comes with mini MIDI cable and Overrich casing (Konami size).

For some software look over here: http://www.msx.org/wiki/Mu-pack
But also Synthesix should work: https://bitbucket.org/grauw/synthesix

JunSoft has tested it with MIDRY with success.

Final price will be 105 euro including casing and mini MIDI cable so it will fit a Konami/Overrich case!
Shippingcost: The Netherlands: 7,50 euro, Europe: 15 euro, Worldwide: 25 euro

If you buy two or more, you only have to pay shippingcost once and a discount of 10%. So, arrange multiple orders! ^^

PayPal accepted on pre-order basis, there is no stock available currently.

@Neo: thanks! Right now 8 units are reserved already, so only 2 units remaining, take your chance! There will be no more batches of this item. All units are assembled already, so if the last two are reserved as well, you guys can expect a Christmas present this year Wink Ofcourse you have to pay for it, as Santa isn't rich unfortunately Tongue

I did a quick test (MIDRY for MSX2/2+/MSX turbo R and SAWP for MSX turbo R) and it works great! Thanks Jun! We love hardware from Korea! Cool

I received mine earlier this week! The interface is well-built and has a nice Konami-case size.

However a few clarifications regarding the newspost above:

Quote:

Like the MIDI Interface 3, it is not an MSX-MIDI standard interface because the MSX-MIDI ROM is absent. Due to its absence, the presence can’t be detected in the standard way described by the MSX Datapack and some software can have compatibility issues. Also the alternate I/O port mode that external MSX-MIDI interfaces are supposed to initialise to is not available, so it doesn’t work on turboR GT because it conflicts with the internal MSX-MIDI interface.

It comes with one mini MIDI cable, and like the DalSoRi you have to cut the holes in the cartridge.

Due to the absence of the MSX-MIDI ROM, it does not work with Synthesix. I’ll add support in a future release. Note that the original MIDI Interface 3 design goes as far back as 1995! I think there must be quite a few around in Japan and Korea.

I added a MIDI Interface 3 extension configuration to openMSX so developers can test in the emulator.

@Grauw: thanks for your clarifications, configuration for OpenMSX and support in Synthesix, although more difficult as hoped perhaps as it cannot be detected without ROM. I thought the detection part was part of MIDI-BASIC ROM (which is absent) as mentioned in another post. But I'm only distributor and not very technical as you Wink For next projects, I will buy the first item and test it so I can report back when other people are also interested and have questions about it first. I did test DalSoRi v1 and floppyadapter but indeed not this interface.

But the newspost did mention it works for FS-A1ST and MSX2/2+/1chipMSX. For FS-A1GT it is useless as it already has a MIDI interface build-in. But, indeed, the Mu-pack could also be used on FS-A1GT if needed as at default it operates at other ports. (which can be set in compatibility mode). And the newspost also mentioned it comes with cable (not cables) as most of the time probably only MIDI-OUT will be used as Z80 is too slow when both are used? For those interested, the short manual tells how to make one extra yourself.

However not fully compatible I still hope people will enjoy it with at least MIDRY and SAWP. Smile

Probably this was the only batch as Jun will now concentrate on DalSoRi v2 (no promises!) in the near future and need all the spare time he has and with not much money. This was just a side project. We will see what 2016 will bring us! Smile Merry Christmas/holidays for now Smile

I wouldn’t say useless, e.g. Synthesix supports multiple MIDI interfaces so you can connect multiple MIDI controllers at once… But it’s perhaps not a common scenario.

Retrofan wrote:

It’s just 3125 bytes / sec, or 52 bytes / interrupt @ 60 Hz, so the Z80 has enough processing power to handle twice that. But there’s not many software that uses them both simultaneously I think. For Synthesix I would like to eventually add MIDI OUT support as well, and a PC patch librarian which can also proxy to a community website. But those plans are still far away Smile.
