In our previous poll we asked how alive or dead our visitors considered MSX to be. With no less than 113 unique votes cast, these are the results:

  1. still alive (45.13%)
  2. more alive than ever (26.55%)
  3. barely alive (15.04%)
  4. dead (13.27%)

So, there you have it. All in all more than 70% of the visitors of MSX Resource Center share our positive view on the activity of the MSX community.

Lets move on to our next poll, the final round of our latest mega-poll. On January 7th, we began our quest to find out what our visitors thought to be the most important MSX news of 2005. After sending in a grand total of 90 nominees, and 5 rounds of voting in our active MSX Forum, three news facts came out to compete during the next couple of weeks on our frontpage poll. To help you choose, here are the top three nominees, combined with a small description:

  • Infinite releasing 4motion and their website - The fresh MSX group (and MRC Challenge regulars) Infinite released the impressive engine with which they made the even more impressive demo's Sphere and Wings. The nominated 4motion demo engine brought a brand new style of demo's to the MSX community.
  • MSXdev'05 resulting in 21 new MSX1 games. For the second year in a row, the MSX1 game development competition MSXdev turned out to be a huge success. This year no less than 21 brand new MSX1 games were released. Shame on those who voted negatively in our previous poll!
  • One Chip MSX news (pre-ordering, second chance). In 2005, the first version of the long expected One Chip MSX was announced and available on pre-order. First in Japan only, but later the rest of the world could order One Chip MSX computers as well. Although an impressive amount of more than 3,400 devices were pre-ordered, ASCII decided to not produce the One Chip MSX, as they had put the bar on 5,000 pre-orders. The MSX community had given a clear signal that they would like to see improved, and more detailed specifications. MSX Association announced the One Chip MSX is to get a second chance in 2006, and instantly announced several improvements to its design.

Visitors of the MSX Resource Center, it is up to you to decide which was the best MSX news of 2005. Think it over carefully, and please do cast your votes.

To those wondering: yup, Infinite did score 2 points less than the OCM news in the final round, but scored more points in total. As the OCM news was closely related I decided to combine those two newsposts and slip the Infinite news in to the grand finaly, as proposed over here. Happy voting!

Well I think the Moonsound is on 4th place than. I highly I appreciate -although this poll is quite not representative- the people who appreciate our efforts to create products. But apparantly not with exception from Sonic by MRC people , a pity.
The way Arranger e.g. is burned down worries me

You're right , this poll is not fully representative.

As the method seems me always strange (because too linked to random choices in the first rounds), I participate only in the last rounds if I'm interested by the topic of the poll.

What concerns Arranger, I'm still interested but I'll order it only when the 3rd CD will be available.
That's my choice Smile

Well no problem with that of course.
But the actual problem is that people judge without having seen it. If I look it at the CD was not supplied this time by a simple sticker but by another technique and that was so beautiful that I even surprised the maker(s) and a better compliment you cannot get and if I see the reactions in a first round and also the music quality is very good maybe the makers think twice for completing and that it is always so negative.

I've checked the rounds that I had missed.

The problem with Arranger happens in the second round as it is opposed to "Dahku finished and released Website updated". Hardcore gamers still prefer a good game and are not interesred by a collection of music demos. Alas, it's the reality.

This problem proves the limitations of the MRC method for the mega-polls. For me, it's really not the good way, because especially in the 3 first rounds, all depends really from random, what's not good.
A better method should be to give points to a list of 50 suggestions for example : 50 points for your number 1, 49 points for the number 2, ...... It means that eveyone should only make a classement by choosing his number 1, his number 2, .... It's really more simple and there's no random choice !
But of course MRC will always pretend that his method is better Crying

MRC will not pretend this method is better. I talked about it with snout once, and he agreed with me that this method only gives a top-1 outcome. So, only the item ranked 1 is really the best one (it survived all other contestants), but the others (ranked 2 and later) are a result of a more or less random process.

/me sighs deeply. Please, people, we're not deciding on the future of the world here. Why do you guys have to take everything so seriously? (Mega)polls are a -fun- part of the MSX Resource Center and the voting method (which is used on quite a few other fora as well) indeed only reveals what people think of the most important news of 2005. Arranger not making it into the third round doesn't mean people totally dislike it, it only means that people thought of Dahku as a more worthy candidate for the title. Lighten up, guys...

I heard there will be a football event this year and the way they structured the matches, there is no guarantee the two strongest teams will play in the final: a quarter or semi-final match between the two strongest teams can occur and only one team can go on. It's an outrage and we should boycot this event Wink
