Konami re-releases Metal Gear 1?

Konami have announced they will release a special premium package of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game: The Twin Snakes. This premium package will contain, apart from a Nintendo Gamecube and the new Metal Gear game itself, a 44 page booklet with background information on Metal Gear and a disc containing video footage and... the original NES version of Metal Gear. The premium package will only be realeased in Japan, but on lik-sang it's possible to order the game even if you don't live in Japan. The package includes an extra voltage step-down converter for customers in Australia or Europe.

It is a bit strange that Konami now announces the NES version of the Metal Gear game as the original Metal Gear, as they recently stated otherwise themselves, even bringing an MSX to a Nintendo exposition to demonstrate the real first version of Metal Gear to the audience. As Konami stated themselves on this page, Hideo Kojima had nothing to do with the NES version of Metal Gear. However, the premium package is announced on the same Twin Snakes website. It seems that die-hard Metal Gear fans still have to wait for the re-release of the real first two editions of Metal Gear, if Konami ever decides to re-release these games.

Why the NES/Famicom Metal Gear??? The MSX version is better! (not to say Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake...)

Incredible decision.

Konami: bad, bad, bad.

Well, Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes is a game exclusively designed for the Nintendo Gamecube. You do the math Smile

Nintendo already has a NES emulator for Gamecube, Konami would have to code a MSX emulator to run the MSX version...

But I'm not convinced yet... I haven't seen the words 'Famicom' or 'NES' on any of the official sites yet.

Yes, I forgot this...

And if Konami emulates someway the MSX versions of Metal Gear they have to pay ASCII/MSX Association, am I right?

Really? I doubt Konami paid ASCII for their MSX Antiques Collections on PSX and Saturn.
On MSX there are not license fees for making software, so I don't think there are license fees for emulating that software. Only if the BIOS ROMs were used, but for such a specific emulator it's better to HLE (High Level Emulate) that anyway.

The MSX Antiques collections used no bios roms and used modified versions of the games, maybe to avoid licensing issues?

I doubt Konami even used an existing MSX emulator to port to PSX for their Antiques Collection titles.
