JohnHassink Moonsound collection

Some MSX game producers had a reputation for delivering classy music with their adventures. On MSX, music was a selling point, especially for companies like Micro Cabin who revolutionised the way we judged the FM-PAC. Typically, game tunes from these kind of companies are high on the cover-todo list of scene composers, a frequent activity during the music disk era of the 90's. Freshly recovered from disks out of that era, here is a collection of covers from classy games. These are all made with MB-Wave and a standard Moonsound by MRC admin JohnHassink.

..which may be a small hint even. Don't forget to backup your old MSX disks! How long will they last? Much more importantly, if you merely have a standard MSX without modern expansions such as a Nowind or Compact Flash interface, how long will you still possess a PC with a diskdrive and backup/networking capabilities? A nasty situation like this one took a bit from JohnHassink's wallet in order to let a computer shop extract the contents of a heavyweight antique PC - one that still has a diskdrive! An embarrassing situation, let thou be warned! And now, time for the baton!

Both! In the other songs a lot is going on in the arrangements, whereas the calmness of the Water Floor song more or less forces you to keep an eye on dynamics, choice of instruments, and the amount of extra layers you add to the arrangement before it gets 'over the top'. I'm not saying your other songs are over the top, but they can be a bit 'in your face'.

I see what you mean and actually agree with that. I know.
This is also partly why I kept this ancient arrangements un-edited before MP3-ing them; I'd had just as well totally re-made them from scratch.

Hey, did you steal some of Vroemisse's sound tricks in that water song? I think I recognize the seashore effect being played on a very high octave to produce some interesting effects

Actually -as you already know, I'm sure - there's a lot of effects and tricks you can pull off by using the standard Moonsound waves in unconventional ways, and I used this technique a lot.

I love to hear these old tunes again. I automatically see the scrolling red bar again. And Jorito is a good listener. I don't know who discovered that effect but we always listened to each others music and analized it so one of us must have "discovered" it.

Way back, when we couldn't even grow a moustache yet, we were part of a development team called "Sargon".
Under the banner of Sargon, we released some issues of disk magazine "Defender" along with a disk containing game hints called "Guide Through Gameworld".

When yum joined Sargon, he immediately had a big present in the form of MB-Stereo music and gfx made by himself.
This became a music demo called "Twisted Reality".

Besides all that, Sargon permanently worked on 2 projects which were way too huge and ambitious to ever get finished by such a relatively small and inexperienced team as we were;
* A.N.G.E.L., an Aleste like game
* The Curse of Kaijruu, which was to be a very large RPG game

A few years later, after the unofficial disbandment of Sargon, we decided that the TRUCKLOAD of OPL4 music which yum and I had created for those 2 projects should be featured on a sequel to Twisted Reality, along with some A.N.G.E.L. & Kaijruu graphics which were also finished; "Twisted Reality 2".

Where Twisted Reality 1 is at?
To my surprise, I just found out it's not in the Downloads section...

Who also gets a lot of noise with "Rise of Badu" and "Zegraia"?
I may have screwed up a bit when pumping up the volume in the process of MP3-ing the songs.
Please some feedback, so I may do it better next time.

Without referring to specific songs, the volume is a tad loud here and there.

But, it depends on how you record it. Some anonymous recorder with no interface and no visuals? Or a decent audio recorder like Sound Forge? In case of the latter, you should easily be able to see things clip, meaning you should lower the input level in the mixer section of your sound card.
