Japan 1998 photoshoot

Topic: Photo shoots

In 1998 three members of the MSX group Fony went to Tokyo, Japan, experiencing one of the most impressive cities of the world in a search for MSX collectibles. At the time several shops in Akihabara were still loaded with rare Japanese MSX software titles. Stefan Szarafinski sent us 175 pictures that were taken during this trip, showing several characteristic spots in Tokyo and, of course, the shops in Akihabara offering MSX goodies for sale.

Although things certainly have changed, there are still a few shops in Tokyo selling MSX hardware and software even today. In the Japan 2003 photoshoot and the MRC goes Japan - January 2004 photoshoot you can find several pictures of shops that are still selling MSX software. If you are interested in the changes that Tokyo went through in just 5 years the Nippon 2003 photoshoot is worth having a look at as well, as Sander Zuidema was staying in the same hotel in 2003 as the members of Fony did in 1998. Both photoshoots give an impression of the area around the Ajia Kaikan hotel.

If you ever wanted to know what it's like to be an MSX user wandering around in this strange world full of MSX (related) items in 1998, this is as close as you're going to get. Enjoy the pictures!
