For an MSX veteran, the name ANMA sure rings a bell. Or two. This Dutch scene group made name with MSX demos and, later on, a stack of high quality games. These home-brew gems were made into production and sold worldwide. That was 20 years ago. Today ANMA made their games re-available at Matra's webshop. A package names "Limited Run Heritage" delivers 5 ANMA games at limited stock.

The MSX software house ANMA did some serious game developing in the 1990s. Atleast 5 games made it public: Squeek, No Fuss, Nosh, Frantic, Troxx. In the 1990s, without the Internet, ANMA products were not easily accessible to all MSX users. Now there is an opportunity to get all original ANMA games in one affordable buy.

ANMA worked together with Matra Computer Automations to bring this Game Collection to the MSX community again. This Limited Run Heritage consists of 20 units only. It is a full package containing 5 physical disks, each labeled and with an inlay booklet. All in full color. Matra Computer Automations ships world wide. Don't be a squeek, get your copy today.

Wow! And only 20.
I bet they sold out already, and if not, later today...

Why the 1SD logo? 1SD would imply single-sided single-density. Which for 3.5" disks would be 180kB, which I don't think was ever offered on MSX. Was this meant to be 1DD?

Yes, the first 3 disks are '1DD' disks. I came with the same feed-back. Matra preferred '1SD' and had reasons for that. But they are MSX standard 360kB disks.

So will Mantra Web Shop produce more eventually?

If not, congratulations to the first 20 buyers for obtaining a nice collector's item! Cool

So folks, what's YOUR favourite ANMA game??

For me that would be No Fuss. Also because of nostalgia, because I got the game on disk with an issue of MSX Gids (I think the one with Joe Kowalski on the front page). I found the game pretty original and really fun, and to this day, the soundtrack never fails to impress me.

You mean you got it with MSX Mozaïk... exactly how I got it Smile And it was my first ANMA game also. Actually, it was the first disk game I ever ran on my brand new MSX2 in 1993...

Uhm yes, you're right. MSX Mozaïk, not MSX Gids. Smile
Cool that it was the first disk you popped into your new MSX machine, it must have nostalgic value for you as well.

I really like Frantic, but it's also the only game I've played of theirs. Based on videos, I'm not sure I'll like Troxx very much (it looks impressive, but doesn't seem all that fun), and Squeek looks a little too similar to Antarctic Adventure (which is hard to go back to after playing Penguin Adventure), but No Fuss looks like a fun diversion, and Nosh looks amazing -- Nosh looks like it has the potential to dethrone Frantic for me, as it seems like a game I'd really like! What's weird, though, is that I've never been able to get Nosh running on my MSX2+ by writing it to floppy with Disk Manager. Every time I've tried, it's given me an error when I've attempted to run it! I suspect I either downloaded a bad .dsk file, or it has something to do with the fact that I'm trying to write it onto a 2DD disk.

Either way, I'm hoping that when I receive this box (because I was indeed one of the lucky ones to score a copy while they were available!), the actual disk will run properly on my system. Fingers crossed!

a 2DD disk should be formatted the way the dsk is. At least this is how putdisk does it. Then again, you're using a pc tool on a 1DD dsk. I'm not sure a pc diskdrive understands that concept.

My favorite ANMA-game has got to be Troxx. It's one of the few games I have finished. Even without cheating! Very solid gameplay, loved it to bits. The funny thing is they didn't like it that much themselves. They rushed the game according to an interview I once read.

And if you're the Thom I think you are, you made Froxx Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

Your memory is better than mine Crazy
Totally forgot about that. It was very, very bad. Due to a bug stage 002 was impossible to get through. However, pushing BS helps.

Sorry for hijacking this newspost! Back to ANMA's great legacy Cool

I've seen terrible games which weren't rushed and were liked by the makers. Troxx is nothing to be ashamed of. I never finished it though. I die too easily Smile

I go with the first ANMA game I played on dad's MSX, which was Frantic. Which came if I recall correctly with the MCCM cd's.
