3MHz have just released a nice tool called SCMD, which converts your SCC cartridge into a 5-channel PCM player. Add an extra SCC in slot 2, and you even have 10 channels at your disposal. On the website, a sample mp3 file can be heard. 3MHz also released an PSG/MSX-MUSIC/SCC MML Compiler which supports PSG arpeggio and the PCM format used to create these 'SCC MOD files'.

This is, well, interesting at the very least... The tune sounds a bit odd, but if those are indeed a bunch of samples playing simultaneously it's still impressive! Smile

Well, this sounds promising... don't know about others but the word "tracker" was my first thought.

Hehe Japan is MML world.... but a tracker that uses this technology (or a MOD->SCC convertor) would indeed be very cool!

Fony did use the SCC for sample already, 'bout 10 years ago. Sample streaming still takes up huge CPU timing and is there for not suited for games, demos, whatever. Too bad. But the idea is nice.

It sounds like the C64 SID Chip. Maybe a SID player...

hm.. I prefer the original tune. And if this tune is a model for all tunes then I prefer the normal way we've been using the chip, so, no samples. (let alone that it prolly won't be very practical when it comes to usage behind a game/demo). It's not like samples are heaven orso, they will be, when you have enough of them. But below a certain minimum amount of samples, things like FM, analogue'esque synthesis or short wave playing (scc) wil be a lot more practical and sound a lot better..

I think it's silly to base your opinion on a new utility on one single song that has been released for it, in mp3 format. Using 10 PCM channels on MSX at the same time == cool factor. So perhaps it needs tweaking and tuning, perhaps it does take a lot of CPU time but it -DOES WORK- and I think there are plenty of examples thinkable in which it will sound -really- cool.

More examples are most welcome Smile With 10 cool channels Cool

Question, is there a mml guru who can explain the thing in ENGLISH?? That would be realy nice.

The thing that SCMD consumes the CPU power very much will be eased in the future. LOL!

I am making the tune that used "FM-PAC" and "SCC" at the same time now though it is incomplete.
