Snatcher - Strafefox review

Retrogame enthusiast Strafefox, responsible for quite a lot of MSX-related game reviews, has put together another entertaining review of another Konami classic.

This time the honour belongs to Snatcher, the Cyberpunk RPG which was released in 1988 for the NEC PC-8801 as well as the MSX2. The video also describes the later versions for the PC-Engine Super CD-ROM² (aka TurboGrafx-CD), Sega Mega-CD, PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions, which all feature a proper ending the two original versions are lacking.

While the video mostly just shows footage from the Mega-CD version, it is still nice to see the comparison of each release, as well as the mention of the MSX2-exclusive RPG spin-off SD Snatcher.

Wouldn't mind seeing Policenauts reviewed, as well as Pennant Race. Or perhaps Ganbare Goemon.

I really enjoyed finishing the English version. It's actually the last MSX game I finished on my real MSX Smile

The MSX version has a cliffhanger as ending... That's sad... I think I'd rather et myself the Sega CD version...

Why not play the MSX version and then see the ending at Youtube (Sega CD) like I did when I played it few months ago? Smile The last part is very short and just mostly consists of cinemas and spoken parts, so not much gameplay either missing there.

The (great) voiceacting of the sega cd version really adds a lot to the game imho.

Totally! I only got annoyed by Metal Gear's voice, but generally, it's excellent. To me, the Sega CD version is the definite one.

I'm not myself very fond of these english dubs, not in games or in movies / animes. English sounds just a little bit stupid and uninspired compared to the original japanese voice acting (I don't know if there's a japanese version for Snatcher?). If it's a japanese made game which was originally japanese, then it should have japanese voice acting and english subtitles. Maybe it's just me, but I really love japanese and love to hear it when I'm also learning it.

I also prefer to keep the original Japanese voice acting, but only if it has good English subs. Smile

Does anybody know if some of the people who made the English version for Snatcher are still around? The latest English version is already very good(!!!), but there are a few remaining Portugese texts and some typos in there which would be nice if those were corrected.
