Updated again...
Found a music module, so I added it...
Come on guys, I know you got some missing numbers for me...
1chipMSX : 04880 (one of the last pieces, batch was 5000 pieces!)
Thanks, but if that's the logic, it could be save to say that the whole ocm range goes from 00001 to 05000
But next to that I found a few old Sony computers on Spanish e-bay from sellers who were so polite to make a pic of the serials. So: updated
I think the puzzlers could already try to find some logic in the Philips numbers. Sony is a totally different story: It's one big mess
Ok, just took my MSX stuff which I have laying around out of the shed...
Sony HB-G900AP: 400243
Philips VG8235/00: FF02621010475
Philips VG8235/00: FF01606013449
Philips NMS1205 Music Module: HK000062
Philips MSX Interface-Modem Cartridge NMS-1250: 10026965000
There is no serial number on my Philips Music Keyboard NMS1160, as is none on the SBC3810 mouse
@Meits, trying to make sense of the Philips serials I found both
NMS 8280/00 FF02731011767
NMS 8280/00 FF02751011767
One of them is bound to be incorrect. I could not find these serials in the topic, can you recall where they came from?
Only sense I can make of it now is that the last 6 digits are plain incrementals.
A hunch I have right now is the following
[????][x][ww][ssssss]
???? - unknown; production location/plant/country/???
y - production year [198x]
ww - production week [never higher than 51 so far]
ssssss - serial number
The resulting table looks somewhat plausible

With the last entry being the odd one out. VG8020's being produced in 1988? Why? For which market?
Week 2 of 1988 is not really that far behind week 43 of 1987. It's only 8 weeks. Also, philips made a change after the NMS8220 was released, so the VG-8020 would look like the MSX2 counterpart.

I really don't know when they start producing that thing, but it might be catered more toward emerging markets or something like that..
Good one! VG 8010/00: SF01450115891 we know that the VG8000 and VG8010 were made in France. So perhaps SF01 is the French factory. Any more people with such machines?
@Snout.
What's not in this topic is from clear en unclear pictures scattered over the internet... It is possible that I found one of those serials on a razor sharp picture and the other on a barely readable one which I had to enhance to be able to read it...
Which one do you guess is the wrong one? That one should be deleted... If not sure, both should be deleted... Can't have doubts here...

All the Philips MSX1 sold in France had the Black casing (and the French Azerty Keyboard). The same goes for French VG-8000 and VG8010. It's not a later model, they always were sold with the black case. I have no idea why they made a specific case only for France. Perhaps it was to "Match" the color case of the VG5000 which was sold and manufactured in France at the time. The Philips Printers (VWxxx) were compatible with both the VG5000 and MSX and also had that same black color.
