Hmmm I've issue with gr8ftp, I have a "gr8net not found", which is Strange since I just made some callnet commands before typing my gr8ftp command callnetbrowse works ect... It appears that after typing gr8ftp , the gr8net bios is not accessible anymore, basic doesn't recognize the callnet commands anymore.
Do you have an idea of what happen ?
I've tryed to put the gr8net on different slot, it's always the same behavior.
I've also a megaflashsdrom in the other slot...

Hi Mumbly,
If I remember correctly, you can set an "ID" on you Gr8Net cartridge with some jumpers. I think Gr8Net can only detect Gr8Net with slot ID 1. Let me know if that helps!

So it's possible to launch 1MB roms on an MSX with only 512KB RAM using SofaRun (the RAM is used as a sort of cache). But that does not work for all games.

Ok, will do but now I am running vsftpd which does work.

However, how can I do a "cd" to a directory with spaces? My directory name is "MSX TR" but it only picks up "MSX". How to include spaces with a CD?

UPDATE:
Just installed proftpd again. Same behavior but when I do "verbose 1" now and then a dir it starts listing the directory contents but at one point some garbage text and a beep and then it continues listing dirs untill ready. The latter behaviour I had also with vsftpd.

Changing to / now leads to a nice directory listing. Conclusion:

1. My home directory has files/dirs that make GR8FTP get confused.
2. Listing of directory only works with proftpd when I turn verbose 1 on at the GR8NET client. WIth vsftpd it works without verbose.

Ok, for the extra memory, how much RAM does your machine itself have, and Louthrax is right, there are jumpers you can set, but you need to read the manual about what setting would be usefull for you.

Ok, this seems related to the encoding format of your file names (maybe you have accentuated or localized characters?). Spaces also do not match very well with MSX file names (unless I added some renaming filter, but I do not remember).... But at least the dir command should display them correctly. Anyway, UTF8 support will not be supported immediately in Gr8FTP Smile

Let me know if that issue remain critical for you, but that might take me some time to investigate (installing the same FTP serves as you and everything...)

Thanks Louthrax. I'll setup MSX friendly directory. But that still doesn't solve the issue that I have to type verbose 1 to see directories with ProFTPD whilst with vsftpd this is not required. That shouldn't be a character issue right?

I've changed the switch to fit with the slot 1 requirement, changed the mapper type to 24 , load without the megaflash sd card, then without nextor, but still remaining the same behavior, even with the cartridge alone. So now I'm lost, I have the impression that the software has changed of slot, didn't found in a subslot what it needs, throw an "GR8net not found" error.
As the slot configuration has been changed, then the basic commands are not recognised anymore.
Explained with my words, sorry

Ok, nextor should also load in mapper mode 24 on gr8net, do you have a sd card inserted in it? So gr8net call commands give an error?

I've updated GR8FTP to also support the UNAPI interface. This allows to use it on DenYoNet, ObsoNet, and also GR8Net in UNAPI mode. I've renamed the tool to SofaFTP (SFTP.COM), because it's not GR8Net specific anymore (that combined with a lack of naming inspiration). I'll probably create a new "SofaFTP bug-report thread" to avoid confusion.

Use the /U argument on the command line to force UNAPI use on GR8Net (direct GR8Net firmware calls are used by default).

You can download it from my website. Documentation has been updated too.

Other changes are:

  • The TA command (time adjustment) has been refined and also takes minutes ('hh:mm' format).
  • Performance should be improved a bit.

Finally, here are some download rates benchmarks:

  • Z80 / GR8Net: 34.0 KB/s
  • Z80 / GR8Net-UNAPI: 17.5 KB/s
  • Z80 / DenYoNet: 9.5 KB/s
  • R800 / GR8Net: 66.0 KB/s
  • R800 / GR8Net-UNAPI: 44.0 KB/s
  • R800 / DenYoNet: 10.5 KB/s

So the GR8Net is definitively faster than the DenYoNet, and the slow DenYoNet's baud rate looks related to the hardware itself (no improvements on turboR / R800 mode).

Using the UNAPI interface seems to slow down significantly the GR8Net.

Let me know if you experience problems when using this tool. I'd also be interested if someone could confirm that SofaFTP also works on ObsoNet.
