My msx doesn’t save time and date settings, because the battery doesn’t charge anymore. I found a replacement battery of this kind on this site. https://www.pilesminute.com/1060-sanyo-11-x-505-n-50-sb3-36v...

But before i fuck things up.. how do i replace it? Do i cut the wires, desoler the left-over wires, and put the new one in? Or do i desolder the old with the wires stil connected and and solder the new one on?

I’m asking this because i don’t have special solder stuff for small electronics and i don’t want to kill my msx.

I think i should cut the wires and attach the battery to it without desoldering it from the motherboard to avoid damage on the motherboard.

I personally would choose your first method, it is more solid. Don’t worry about the motherboard, but remember to have your soldering iron at medium temperature. Don’t use an iron without temperature control. I have soldered a lot on these 8250 series, just recently, and never experienced problems with damage

I've done quite a few of those just recently.

Be sure to cut out D130.
Be very careful with the solder pads. They come loose very easily.

Where do you live herres88...?
Should you live near Tilburg in the Netherlands, I have over 35 years of experience soldering, and would be glad to help...

I'm curious. What could happen if you just cut out the battery but leave the space empty?

The MSX still works but it doesn’t remember at startup the date/time, 40/80 column mode, colors, etc. I know because I have it removed myself. Better to be careful. Although I like Meits’s approach.

I took that method from hardware master Omega.
