What's with the sprites with 4 colours on one line? Or is that artifacts of the image?

What do you mean? The title? The title uses sprites to overcome the screen4 colour limit in the moon.

No, I meant some of the skeletons and snakes that have >3 colours per line. Slight shading which might be an image artifact, but that's usually only when creating JPEG not BMP or PNG images.

Edit: when you've switched to MSX2, why still a screen 4 titlescreen?

But it's BMP, not JPG. Tongue
I can only see 3 colors per line for the snakes and skeleton, and the skeleton shield is probably a separate sprite.

*edit* er, even the shielded skeleton is 3 colors per line

Why should we? Pattern based screen modes are far better than bitmap modes.
Think: scroll, tile animation, large animated bosses. What we want to create isn't that easy to create on higher screens (we want a game not a tech-demo ;P).

Besides that, I LOVE the color-spill challenge.)

Yup. Only 3 colors per line. Even better all animated frames of an enemy use the same color-data pattern.
Must be an optical illusion. Wink

Does the title screen have scrolling, animation and large bosses in it? If not screen 5 (or better: 7 or 8) is much more of a recognition to MSX 2 capabilities, especiallly if you're already 'cheating' by using sprites Tongue (for the game engine I agree, but the title screen looked more like a remnant of the MSX1 development stage).

Yeah, my browser is apparently doing its own dithering when zooming images.

@Artrag: that would be a nice teaser!

Title screens are overrated (just take a look at some of the title screens of the best MSX2 games Wink )

www.generation-msx.nl/image.php?filename=1248.gif&type=screenshot&imagetype=title&thumb=1 www.generation-msx.nl/image.php?filename=1267.gif&type=screenshot&imagetype=title&thumb=1 www.generation-msx.nl/image.php?filename=1838.gif&type=screenshot&imagetype=title&thumb=1 www.generation-msx.nl/image.php?filename=1238.png&type=screenshot&imagetype=title&thumb=1

But you are right. It is something we left from the MSX1 version. But still think it is nice (and small in ROM).
