I'm a tester..... but I won't do an NDA... it doesn't show much trust in others.

Well perhaps RyJuZo put it a bit strong but I guess he means he wants some betatesters with some time to spare. If you are coding yourself I think he figures you probably have less time to do betatesting.
The no ripping anything from the game part should be something any betatester adheres to. I could understand why RyJuZo ads that to the rules if he had negative experiences in the past. As for the non-disclosure agreement I don't know or understand why he wants to use one of those. What is there even to disclose as a betatester? Only things I could think of is spreading betas, the actual game or some tricks to the game RyJuZo doesn't want to be known straight away. And that should be implied anyways if you are a tester.

I'd love to betatest a game like KM3, but I don't know how much time I have for it. I am currently also busy with a translation project. But if you need some additional testers I could give a hand.

I need to defend RyJuZo a bit. Its not that uncommon to put some fairly high requirements on beta testers. Its really nothing you sign up for to just get a sneak peak of a game. Its a lot of work and many scenes, e.g. the Coleco scene which I'm also somewhat active in is pretty serious about beta testing. I agree that the NDA and require no other development may be asking a bit too much, but requiring people to be dedicated and meet deadlines is certainly not asking too much. A tester fills an important role in a big game project and just as the coder or graphics artist need to finish in time the testers need to as well.

Reality check!

I am for real. I am Dutch and we are what you call 'NUCHTER'. I want people to know what they can expect nothing more nothing less.

Only members of MRC with active memberships older than 1 year are selected.

You do realize that there are a lot of lurkers who sign up and react after years of passive reading? What does this year guarantee you?

Well, I can search through MRC and look into what this person has been up to until now and might get a general idea how people in community "perceive" this person.
with fresh memberships I cannot !

So far we've yet to see the first thing coming from your hands Tongue

You keep hinting this but remember I've only been at it a year (and maybe a couple of months more). I would like to see anyone try building ALL the necessary tools(Assembler+ide+debugger/GFX designer/Sprite Edit/Music Edt/Sfx edit/Map Edit)+a game in that limited time !!
On top of that add that I'm also a PERFECTIONIST. So if it's not perfect to me it's not good ENOUGH !The effort I have put in it is ENORMOUS.

So is it really so strange I want to safeguard my work?

and remember...patience is a virtue...Smile

ps. it is not entirely true that you have "SEEN" nothing from my hands now is it? I did demonstrate my (konami-like) SCC-tracker and my Developer(asm)-studio for you on some little fair a while ago.

I agree with RyJuZo! After all the hard work you see your gfx / music / concept on the Internet.. no doubt your motivation drops as fast as a jumper...

MSX died because of illegal copying you know!

Let the man use a NDA! It will definitatly filter the serious testers from the rest!!

I was referring to games of course, not to tools. Tools shouldn't cost that much time anyway, but that depends a bit on whether you're an app coder or a game coder. The point is, you've been 'warning' all of us for a while, for you being "the competition". The higher the expectations, the harder you fall when you fail, and those expectations have been skyrocketed by you personally. The NDA is a joke really. If you have this delicate material to testplay by someone, then spend a bit more quality time online. On MRC, on IRC, on MSN, any place. Once you know a few people good enough, then let them test your stuff. If it takes you a year to make a game, then a tester isn't going to clone your ideas within a few months.

But, make no mistake: if it's up to me, you may brag around and 'warn' us as much as you like. If that leads to a good game then we're all happy. Just keep in mind that your audience does expect something to make up for all the hype you're creating.

@_Wolf

you're right that I myself created the hype...and I will continue to do so.
Cause I know you all will be flabbergasted when so you see the final product !!(here you go another addition to the hype...Tongue)

But to be absolutely sure I want others to try the game and tell me if they indeed were flabbergasted !?!

I am for real. I am Dutch and we are what you call 'NUCHTER'. I want people to know what they can expect nothing more nothing less.

Where in the Netherlands? I also live here, and it would be nice if you live nearby... possible to meet in person, easier to exchange hardware for testing/debugging, ...., etc.

I would like to see anyone try building ALL the necessary tools(Assembler+ide+debugger/GFX designer/Sprite Edit/Music Edt/Sfx edit/Map Edit)+a game in that limited time !!

You're making a game, but also all the tools to make it? No offense, but then you're a fool! oO There exist excellent tools for a wide variety of game-making tasks, and finding the right tool, getting to know it, is almost always easier than making your own. Besides that: if you have the creative talent to create gfx, music and so on, working on tools is a waste of your time/talent.

So it's a game... care to share what sort of game? Arcade? Platformer? Shooter? RPG? Sports/racing? Puzzle?

For non-Dutch readers: "NUCHTER" means: sober, as in: not under the influence of alcohol (or other drugs). Often used in a wider sense, meaning: "down to earth, no nonsense" (like the average Dutch way of doing things).
