I have seen screenshots of MSX2 Sim City. Is there a dump of it in some form? Perhaps a demo version? Who made it anyway?

I have seen this text "(C)1989/1991 Maxis software / IMAGINEER Co.,Ltd" mentioned few times.

I believe following these links someone could read pretty much the whole story of the game, but unfortunately I don't have the language skills:

https://archive.org/details/MSXFAN199304/page/n109/mode/2up
(This last is clearly the "the end"-story)

I've checked all versions available I found of Diablo but all with same "broken Game over screen".

This is the file "RUNOUT.g" that is broken. I have the proper version.

The Fixed version can be found on my download site in the Games/MSX2/DSK directory Smile Thanks to GDX.

The article says the images in the middle are the graphic pieces and the actual game isn't ready, therefore these aren't the real game screenshots. The images at the bottom are taken from the PC9801 Simcity. The MSX graphic is accessible by mashing SPACE at the COMIING SOON menu of the attached disk #9.
MSX FAN 1992-09 page 4-7 offers more extensive coverage, but still there is only a graphic and the game screenshots are those of the PC9801 version. Again the graphic is at the COMING SOON menu of this issue's disk #12. I cannot find any evidence something playable on MSX was ever developed.

Thanks, Takamichi!
I remember that back then I was very impressed of these pictures. Did the issue 04/93 offer any explanation why the project was cancelled? ...and was it ever mentioned what software house was actually working on the MSX2 version?

Imagineer, what else? It couldn't have been Maxis. Though Imagineer never released anything for MSX it was the renowned and experienced developer and still lists SimCity in its history. However MSX FAN says Imagineer "terminated our contract with the programmer" but it's indistinguishable whether Imagineer fired an outsourcee or its employee. The reason of cancellation is described they couldn't port the system to MSX and because the project consumed the money and time. The picture at the above right says they are looking at the still image, so something that moves likely never surfaced. The article also advocates the reader to appeal Imagineer to resume the development but it looks the appeal failed.
SimCity was one the numerous titles that were aborted after the mid 1992 loss of the MSX market. If it was ever released it would look like the PC9801 and SNES ver ported by Imagineer.

Thanks for all this info. Can you name some other games that were canceled back then? Not much of that info reached Europe I think.

To find out what titles were canceled I have to check the On Sale release notice and the future schedule on every MSX FAN since 1992, but the Wonder Boy II Monster Land might be the most famous. Majority of the titles with the release date being TBD never made it. They include Vain Dream by Glodia, Record of Lodoss War 2 by Humming Bird Soft, Best Play Baseball by ASCII, Mahjong Gokuh: The Road To India by Chatnoir, Professional Go Part 5 by Mighty Micom System, and Sokoban Revenge: The User Strikes Back that even the developer/distributor was TBD and not Thinking Rabbit that released other Sokobans.
