The Portuguese and Dutch were the first to trade with Japan (and I presume introduced bread to the country), the rest of the world wasn’t allowed access to the country for many years.

Explain please. I think the title of the translation of "MSX Translations" is clearer. (What is Ho-o!?)
火の鳥 seems to be firebird, 鳳凰 seems to be phoenix. On Wikipedia the famicom variant (which has a sub-title and is a different game) was translated to Phoenix Chronicles: Gaou's Adventure. In my opinion “Firebird: The Phoenix Chronicles” does the original title most justice. Sure, it seems repetitive but so is the original Japanese title.

The comic is known as Phoenix in English. Bird of Fire: Ho-o Chapter would be more literal, though. I just don't personally like "Firebird".
Ho-o is the Japanese name for Fenghuang, so I don't think Phoenix is accurate for that part.
Fenghuang just does not mean anything to 90% of the western population (if not more), the Wikipedia page for FengHuang indicates that in the West Fenghuang is referred to as Phoenix, which is still the best translation into English imo. And a translation into English was wat wimpie3 requested.
To me using Bird of Fire instead of Firebird is trivial.
I think the purpose of this thread is to translate the original titles to understand their meaning. This is not a contest for the best English title to put.

The reason Fenghuang would be referred to as a phoenix in the West is that all "fire birds" (hi no tori) are generally called phoenixes. This is presumably why the English title for Hi no Tori is "Phoenix".
The comic spans several time periods, with the phoenix being the common element. Hou-ou Hen is set in ancient Japan, where the bird is recognized as a Hou-ou (Japanese name for Fenghuang).
"Bird of Fire - Ho-o Chapter/Volume" -> literal translation
"Phoenix - Ho-o Chapter/Volume" -> slight localization
Calling it "Firebird: The Phoenix Saga" pretty much misses the point. Plus, if you look up "Firebird" on google you just get pictures of cars. (No disrespect to the person/people who put in the time to do that translation!)
