MRC turns 25

The MSX Resource Center domain MSX.org celebrates its 25th year of existence.

In 1994, Sander van Nunen founded what would become the MSX Resource Center. MRC, for short, is a foundation dedicated to the MSX computer system. While the site was hosted on a private account in its embryonic stage, the real deal started in 1996 when the domain MSX.org was claimed. Registered on 1996-11-12, MSX.org celebrates its 25th year of serving the MSX scene. So, congrats on this anniversary!

Starting out as a simple basic HTML website, it took a few years to mature. Around the turn of the century, MRC was slowly but surely turning into a more dynamic website as a hub for MSX lovers. The last big update of msx.org was 10 years ago. During MRC2k11, MRC was refactored into a full interactive modern website. Believe it or not, but we are still running that iteration. The screen in front of you is printing a 10 year old website. Time for change, we'd say. More on that later.

Running a website like MSX.org takes dedication, love and physical resources. Regarding love, well, that comes naturally. Dedication follows suit. A team of administrators carry the job of not only maintaining the resources, but also to provide you with news posts and other means. For keeping the wheels turning, the website is hosted on pro servers offering high availability. In order to make that happen, the foundation pays services to their providers.

To keep MRC running like silk, now, and in the future, it needs funding. Hard cash, simple as that. This is why the foundation has a donation button present. Anyone can contribute and help this thing that all of us built together, run a bit longer. So, please consider donating a small amount to the foundation.

We made it this far thanks to all of you MSX maniacs out there. Together we are MSX, together we make it happen. Happy birthday everybody!

Well done, Sander & team! 25 years, who would've thought? Glad and proud to have been part of that team too, all those years ago. Keep up the good work!

This site is becoming more and more a treasure trove of knowledge on this family of 8-bit systems. In part due to the great leadership, but also the dedication to collecting and reporting news facts in a high quality fashion. Last, let's not forget the active members, those who regularly contribute (wiki, forum, in particular) to making this place a little shinier every day.

As a staff member that wasn't sure whether or not the Wiki would actually be used when we built the site, I will say that you guys (the community as a whole) as been doing an excellent job in making it an absolute MSX encyclopedia that I still visit very regularly if I want to know about something MSX related. Awesome job guys, keep that going!

Congratulations and thanks to all the people who made the MRC to what it is today. It's still my daily go-to website for MSX related news and to keep in contact with my fellow MSX-ers.

MRC helped rekindle my interest in MSX 3 years ago. Today it is a website I visit daily. Thanks and keep up the good work for another 25 yrs.
