I'm a happy user of cbsfox's tools for making DSKs and DMKs :-)
Today I'm dumping (supposed) protected floppy disks to DMK.
This thread is very long to read, so I ask if my procedure is right:
0) nowadays, dumping on DMK is the same a PDI; or PDI is better that DMK?
1) I use a Sony HB-F700P, so I choose the "F - Sony fast mode";
2) I force the use of "P - Memory mapper".
At the end, the DMK is generated very fast.
Only one point that is not so clear or easy in this tool:
how can I know (inside this tool) if the floppy disk is 360KB or 720KB and select the right 80T / Nr. of sides?
The DMK format is a much better format to preserve the image of the physical disk. The problem is that it's not possible to recreate a physical disk from a DMK image file.
The PDI format is not so complete as the DMK format, but it is possible to recreate a physical disk from a PDI image file.
So, if you want to create perfect images from disks to be used in the Open MSX emulator, use the tool DMK Creator.
The tool does not recognize automatically if the disk is 80T or 40T, so choose 80T of you don't know.
And don't use the option to force Sony Fast mode because it works just with a few computers and disks.
And if you want to create a protect disk image that can be used to recreate the physical disk one day, use DSK-PRO 11.6. It works with most of the disk protections, specially the Brazilian ones.
Thankyou Marcos, so I'm planning to make 3 things for each floppy disk: a normal copy (if possible), a DSK, a DMK, a PDI.
Btw, I made a dump in DMK and DSK of a protected floppy disk, but DSK works and DMK no.
