btw pretty nice my script is being used. We need more MSX music on vgmrips.net. An online archive with webplayer of all those great music disks is still in the back of my mind as well. Vgmrips is just for games. If I had the time and energy I think it would even be possible to make a webplayer that can make audio right out of the original music files... transpile all those nice tools to webassembly... mbm2kss -> kss2vgm -> vgm web player, or mbm2kss -> kss2wav. for FAC Soundtracker mus2kss could be used (mus2kss).

Tip: It already exists. :)
Right, parts from that. This supports KSS, BGM(MuSICA), MGS, MPK and OPX, so it would need mbm2kss (also from the amazing okaxaki), with libkss-js. My experiment from a while back uses it as well.
The Treasure of Usas (MSX2) is also finished now!
Neat! An iconic soundtrack!
Nice!
I'm very happy with all these new packs. The MSX has such a great soundtrack library; I'm looking forward what's coming next.
I think there's a small oversight in the Konami's Tennis pack, though: there is a leftover "02_trimmed.vgz" track. It seems to be identical to "02 Game.vgz" and it's not in the playlist, so I guess it can be safely deleted.
About The Treasure of Usas: I think something may be wrong, since the Neutral versions of the stage BGMs sound exactly like the Angry ones. I checked on a KSS pack and there are clearly four different versions of each stage BGM. In the VGM pack, the lower tone versions are missing in ruins 2, 4 and 5, and there's one missing version between the two lower tone versions in ruins 1 and 3.
It may be even trickier to assign Sad and Angry titles to their corresponding versions, since the KSS pack doesn't seem to be logically arranged. In both ruins 1 and 3 the lowest tone versions are not the last ones, like in ruins 2, 4 and 5. I wonder if they're switched in the actual game as well.
It’s fine to be critical about the packs, vgmrips.net has a high quality standard so if you don’t catch it now someone will complain about it later at a more inconvenient time (worst case after the pack is released).
I totally accept any feedback. For Tennis the extra file is indeed not needed and can be removed, I’ll remove it from the zip on Google Drive and upload a new version to vgmrips.net.
For Usas, every ruin actually has 5 songs in the KSS for Pegu Ruins it is track 129, 193, 194, 195 and 196 (in nezplay). Track 129 is the neutral track that plays off the start (when you enter a temple). The other 4 are used when switching emotions during the game. Now my ears are certainly not the best tuned ones and the tracks sound very similar my reasoning was that the 193, 194, 195, 196 are in the order they appear in the game header.
I’ve relogged these 5 tracks, to my ears and logic 129 and 196 were the same (Neutral). You can listen to these in this zip. Let me know if my ears are off and which track should belong to which emotion (I'll then update the pack for all ruins accordingly).
Cool! I couldn't listen to the new zip since I needed to ask permission, but since we are using the same KSS I decided to give a more careful listen, without using the KSS playlist and checking against a full play.
And indeed you're right, there really are 5 songs for each ruin in the KSS, but only 4 versions. The ones from 128 to 132 match the ones from 193, 197, 201, 205 and 209 and are the Neutral versions. I'd use the ones with numbers higher than 191 just to be safe. From 192 to 211 you have Happy, Neutral, Sad and Angry for each of the 5 ruins, always in this same sequence. I find a bit weird that in ruins 2, 4 and 5 Angry sounds "darker" than Sad, while in ruins 1 and 3 it's the opposite, but it matches perfectly with the game this way.
I think it's perfectly logical that in the final VGM pack you put the Neutral version before Happy, though, since it's the way you first listen to them in the game. KSS song number 133 is a special case, though; it's the same as 129 but without the intro (which never repeats). Instead, it begins like it were 129 but in the second loop. I'd consider it a duplicate since there's nothing particular about it (the KSS playlist I have erroneously call it "alternative").
EDIT: I really appreciate all the work you've put into these packs. There simply isn't enough MSX music in the world for us to listen to.
