Has anyone tested the SD-512 on the NMS-8245? This will be my first MSX machine and it should arrive next week. I was wanting to get an SD-512 for it but 8bits4ever could not guarantee that it would work for me. Has anyone here tried it?

Being as I am completely new to this arena, what else out there is available for the NMS-8245?

Why shouldn't it work on an 8245? This Philips is an ordinary MSX2.

Go for an FM-PAC cartridge or clone asap if you want to enjoy a lot of games with the best quality sound. The FM-PAC was the solution for those MSX computers with no MSX-MUSIC built-in.
More options:

FM-PAK by 8bits4ever (out of stock)
FM-PAQ by Reprofactory also with jack sound output (out of stock)

Just a comparison PSG (the default sounchip in every MSX computer) and MSX-MUSIC. :P

You are right, PAC.
Or go with a sound, memory and a SD combination would be possible.
But, wait,
four things will happen next:
1- Someone will recommend the MFRSCCSD512 to you, then
2- someone else will promote the Carnivore2 as the ultimate weapon until one of the
3- Enlightened Beings' Club demands the GR8Net as a minimum.
4- Oh yes, a lucky guy with personal relationships will brag with his FlashJacks.
We have a wonderful thread that should answer the first questions, certainly availability is also a factor. And now, let me be the first:
1-The Megaflashrom MFRSCCsd512 will be the ultimate choice. It's available, not too expensive, includes an SCC+ sound chip and a second PSG and is very easy to use.
Who wants to be next?

Ok next Tongue. Why not use a Carnivore 2 in stead? It supports FM-Music, SCC and a second PSG. Who follows?

As it is known not to work with Mitsubishi ML-G1 and the Sanyo MPC-100 machines, and my experience with MSX machines is zero, I wouldn't know. I was hoping someone had actually tried it.

That is a very informative thread. Thank you. One thing perplexes me. I tried to find the internet websites and prices of these items and without fail they say "unavailable" or "out of stock". What is the secret to buying them?

For instance, I went to gr8bit.ru. It has the manual for the gr8net, but no link to purchase the cartridge.

The Megaflashrom MFRSCCsd512 is available where?

The MFRSDSCC+512 is available at the MSX Cartridgeshop for prices between 99 and 149.- Euro. I recommend the 139.- Euro priced single SC, 512k version.
Eugeny sells the gr8net, but wants to be contacted via mail. Please do not use the PM function in the forum, it sometimes do not work properly. His shop can be found here.
8bits4ever sells the carnivore in small batches. So ask them to contact you when available or subscribe their newsletter to get infos. They are also very kind.
Hey guys, I'm missing the Gr8net and Flashjacks recommendations! :P

Carnivore2 can currently be ordered as “Pre-order batch. Units will start shipping out by end of January/begining February 2020.”

In fact I ordered one just the other day. I also ordered a CF to SD adapter so I can keep all my files on one medium shared between the Carnivore2, MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD, Zemmix Neo and GR8NET.

It would be nice if someone could make a single table which compares all these things in one view Smile We're getting this question over and over again...
